Don't cut military pay!

A bill in the lame duck Congress would actually cut military pay:

'The “lame duck” Congress is set to consider the annual defense authorization bill. This legislation matters because it sets pay and benefits for the troops, starts new military programs and provides policy guidance.

'For example, such statutes have previously been used to prohibit President Obama from closing the U.S. jihadist detention center at Guantanamo Bay.
This year, though, the draft legislation would make cuts in some military compensation, while spending hundreds of millions of dollars for two years arming and training so-called “moderate rebels” in Syria. Ironically, some of those “moderates” have wound up joining the Islamic State, a murderous jihadist group that is estimated to have thirty former Gitmo detainees in its ranks.

'Let’s give our long-suffering troops the money they deserve – starting with that being squandered on immoderates in Syria.'

What is your point? You don't have a search engine on your internet browser, do you?

I was hoping you could provide some details about the cuts so we could have discussion on them. You presented this topic for us, so I thought that you may have that information.

Are you saying that you support cuts in military pay? Go ahead and discuss it even if you can't find the draft legislation online.

I never said I did or did not support cuts. I was looking for more details so I could examine the facts and make a decision.

I can tell you that I am not 100% for cuts and I am not 100% against cuts. I would like to examine the details of the cuts and know what they are cutting. If they cut items that are not necessary, then sure let's cut them.

So do you know what they are cutting exactly?

They have written in cuts in pay for soldiers.

"The losers in this compromise are once again the troops and their families," Veterans of Foreign Wars spokesman Joe Davis said on Tuesday. "Congress should wait until after the ongoing Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission puts all of its cards on the table in their February report. "
Norb Ryan, president of Military Officers Association of America, told Military.com last month that service members are being unfairly targeted in the Pentagon's drive to cut spending.
"They think we have to fund readiness by taking the money away from the people who are being asked to do more and more," he said.

I'm on my phone with a slow connection, do can't really so my own research. Is this an actual cut in pay being proposed, our a cut in the yearly pay raise as it was going to be last time people started talking about military pay cuts?

According to the article he just posted:

"Service members next year will be paying more for prescriptions bought off base, getting less of a housing subsidy and a picking up a smaller pay raise under an agreement reached between Senate and House lawmakers."

Sounds like the same thing happening to people in jobs all across America. Should the military be exempt from the same thing happening to all Americans?

It is draft legislation, apparently from the Dems. The Pentagon had agreed to some cuts apparently but not the ones now being suggested. They deal with co-pays on medicine (that can involve a lot of money) and BAH.

I am against all of those cuts.

If that's all, then there it's nothing to be alarmed about, other than possibly the smaller pay raise, depending on what the proposed amount is and our inflation rate this year.

Most military never get prescriptions off post, so no change there. Many military also live in post housing, and so never see their housing anyway. When you live in post housing, the cost is whatever your housing allowance is. So the real people getting hurt by that would be the civilian contractors who own the housing.

I think that the Dems should be forced to keep their promises to our military. I think that the military is already underpaid and they should be exempt from anymore cuts of any kind.
