High School: Islamic vocabulary lesson part of Common Core standards

    Parents in Farmville, North Carolina want to know why their children were given a Common Core vocabulary assignment in an English class that promoted the Prophet Muhammad and the Islamic faith.

    “It really caught me off guard,” a Farmville Central High School student who was in the class told me. “If we are not allowed to talk about any other religions in school – how is this appropriate?”

    The Islamic vocabulary worksheet was assigned to seniors.

    Never. PC is their bread and butter. Islam is the newest fad of the PC folks.

    They would be more likely to jump in if the worksheet was about Jesus.

    Here we are again with a misleading title. This vocabulary sheet isn't a PART of common core standards, it meets, or complies, with common core standards. There's a huge difference.

    It's even worse.

    But parents now know who they can hold accountable.

    You should write Todd Starnes if you have a problem with the title.

    The fact of the matter is that the core standards don't specify or dictate the theme of vocabulary sheets. I could create a satanic vocabulary sheet or a Christian vocabulary sheet that meet and comply with the core standards.

    This isn't about a vocabulary sheet that is being dictated by core standards. It's about a local district utilizing a sheet that complies with core standards and the content of that sheet is unacceptable. It isn't a reflection on the core standards, but a reflection on the local district.

    That's the way I see it and parents should know to hold the state accountable and local district officials for choosing to accept it as part of their curriculum.

    If they wanted to pursue it, I believe the parents may have grounds for a lawsuit.
