Representative Michael Grimm has said he will resign from Congress, after pleading guilty to a tax fraud charge.

In a statement, Grimm said he could not "be 100% effective in the next Congress" and will quit next week. He is scheduled to be sentenced in June.

The New York Republican had won re-election in November despite being charged for underreporting $1m (£644,000) in wages and receipts

He pleaded guilty last week, saying he would fight to keep his seat.

"As long as I'm able to serve, I'm going to serve," Grimm had told reporters.

But a change of heart came and Grimm spoke to House Speaker John Boehner before making his latest statement.

Mr Boehner has not publicly called for his resignation, but has said his party would not tolerate wrongdoing…..

    Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House majority whip, acknowledged Monday that he spoke at a gathering hosted by white-supremacist leaders while serving as a state representative in 2002, thrusting a racial controversy into House Republican ranks days before the party assumes control of both congressional chambers.;;;;

    Great timing.

In typical Republican fashion, Grimm resigned. As he should. Democrats don't.

As for Scalisi, it will be on the front page and a lead news story for weeks, although it amounts to nothing. I'll wager No one will be able to demonstrate one iota of racist leanings by Scalisl, but he will be branded a racist.

Meanwhile the racist triumvirate of Obama , Holder , and Sharpton wil continue to try to rip the country apart.

If there are no further revelations, I bet it's off the news outlets by Friday, if not sooner.

You can't be a politician in Louisiana and not know with what groups David Duke is affiliated.

Frankly I was prepared to give him a pass because it was nearly 13 years ago. But now David Duke has spoken.

But now the GOP has made David Duke mad.

I'm not touching that bet. But I will practically guarantee that there will be Republicans saying "he's not a racist."

That didn't take long....except the defender is a Dem.

The embattled congressman also was backed by Rep. Cedric Richmond, currently the only Democrat representing Louisiana.

"I don't think Steve Scalise has a racist bone in his body," Richmond, who is black, told the Times-Picayune. "Steve and I have worked on issues that benefit poor people, black people, white people, Jewish people. I know his character."

Just as they should. A pre-emptive strike is called for, I believe. We know beyond the shadow of a doubt what's coming from the left.

He probably would have been okay if he or his rep hadn't said they didn't know. Now David Duke has said they met several times.
