To include a black person solely because they are black would be racist.

And in an unrelated story, Rev. Al Sharpton was left fuming mad when he discovered that most NCAA Division One University Varsity Basketball teams have an over-representation of Black players.

    Apples and oranges.

For sure there are minority actors/actresses out there who were just as worthy of a nomination and who act just as well as their white counterparts.

But people wonder why there is a Miss Black America or a BET.

The only time black actors and actresses seem to get recognized of late by the Academy with nominations and wins is when they play maids, slaves, sluts, and people with no moral fortitude.

But that's Hollywood. People get nominations based on reputation and not necessarily skill. A lot of the folks don't even watch the films . They just go along with whomever everybody else is nominating.

Sharpton, the most popular black man in America, should ask Obama to use his pen and telephone to fix this problem. Meanwhile Hollywood should give Sharpton a free popcorn every time that he goes to the movies to make up for Hollywood racism.

There is a major problem with racism in Hollywood. This year has been proof of that. Outside of the ridiculous and blasphemous problems with Exodus almost all other major motion pictures have had nearly exclusive white casts.

Now the Academy Awards has provided additional examples of this problem in their nominations. There are a number of quality minority projects that could have received nomination, not the least of which was Selma.

I'm not a fan of Mr Sharpton (his ordination is suspect) nor do I care much for almost any position he takes, but he does have a point here.

That said, let us also not be surprised that a man who owes millions of dollars to the IRS takes advantage of the massive platform granted to him to make more money.

Emperor Obama will have to issue a pardon to Rev. Sharpton for the $4,500,000 that he owes the IRS so that we taxpayers can treat Rev. Sharpton, who can never pay that bill.

What is really surprising to me is that the Academy could find any good movies to give an award to. I know that don't want to see any of those movies until they are free on tv. Hollywood is so yesterday.

What we need is a new government program to ensure fairness in Hollywood and the Academy. Eric Holder and the DOJ needs to look into the Academy. One wonders if the members of the Academy have paid their taxes?

From the video at the link:
Sharpton is going to call an emergency meeting of his 8 person diversity task force committee to discuss the fact that the movie "Selma" only received one Oscar nomination.

    Yeah, so??!!

I am absolutely flabbergasted at what passes as news nowadays. A disgruntled TV personality feels that one of his favorite movies got snubbed in the Oscars and he announces he's going to hold a discussion about it with his cronies, AND IT MAKES THE NEWS??!!

[not criticizing you, Jedi, for posting the article, just can't believe it's considered news by the media]

That's the part I don't really understand. Who cares if he calls an emergency meeting? The nominations are out and they aren't gonna change.

It would be different if he were calling on people to boycott the Oscars and their sponsors. I could see a little news blip for that , but wouldn't even consider it newsworthy then.

The media knows that Al Sharpton is a polarizing figure. If he says "boo", the media will paint it as him calling a white person Casper just because they want to sensationalize a story.

I'm sure he calls meetings all the time that the general public doesn't give a hoot about

Everybody knows that Hollywood is about what makes them money.

Just because something just happens to turn out all white does not mean there is racism involved. Racism involves intent. WE need more honesty in the race discussions if we are ever to get anywhere.

MLK is outdated. It is not the content of your character but the color of your skin. Michael Brown was shot because he was black not because he was resisting arrest and attacking an officer who had stopped the gentle giant after he robbed a little guy in a store. Who cares about Hollywood anyway? When was the last time that you went out to a good movie? 19???

And just because a black person complains about it, does not mean that he thinks it has to be racism.

Nowhere in Al Sharpton's statement did he attribute the lack of diversity in Hollywood or the Academy Awards to racism. Yet you say we need more honesty in race discussions.

Maybe you think it was racism.

Sharpton did say, "The lack of diversity in today's Oscar nominations is appalling and while it is good that Selma was nominated for 'Best Picture,' it's ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations"

Did Sharpton did say, "The lack of diversity in NCAA Varsity Basketball is appalling"?

its a matter of who is most qualified.
I would just love to hear Sharpton answer that question.
