Most people who attend church are used to seeing the offering plate passed around the pews. People donate what they can as a proud member of the congregation.

But a Tampa woman told ABC Action News her church says she must pay more than $1,000 a year in donations or she wouldn't be considered a member.

"People were really friendly there, and I really enjoyed being there," said Candace Petterson.

    Not donations. Membership Dues.

I'm guessing they let people in her situation be "adopted" by other members (anonymously) or to simply sign something saying they do not have the finances.
    I hope, anyway.
Isn't that the norm for the membership dues model?

My understanding of their rule is that you must give the minimum stated amounts in order to vote in the business meetings.

What I would have to do is find another church.

What I would do, maybe - is for about six months - just put cash in - without an envelope - and when they question me, I would simply say I give cash in the amount that the New Testament requires (as the Lord has blessed)

It is common in synagogues. Or at least it used to be. Was it never a thing in other places? I thought it used to be.

I've only heard of that in Charismatic and Catholic churches. I've not heard of such a thing in Baptist or mainstream Protestant churches.

I didn't know people had to give money to vote on the things of God. An abomination.

    Don't walk. Run.

This is a church that has forgotten the most basic of Christ's teachings.

There have been times I was out of work and unable to give a financial offering to my local church. In those cases, I would NOT vote on any financial issue.

So the Widow with her mite (of Luke 21) would not be allowed to vote in this church's meetings?

I wonder if The idea originated from paid staff.
