Critics of the Obama administration's new rules for power plant emissions have been quick to describe them as "government overreach" and "flagrantly unlawful." What they don't say is that congressional inaction and a mandate from the Supreme Court drove the regulatory process to this point.

The new rules limiting the emission of planet-warming greenhouse gases from power plants, which the Environmental Protection Agency finalized on Monday, were written under the Clean Air Act, a law originally adopted in 1970 to regulate sources of air pollution.

From Obama's first days in office, his administration stressed that it did not want to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act, describing it as a non-ideal way to address this type of pollution. But legal mechanisms were already in the works to force the Obama administration to do exactly that if Congress declined to issue new, greenhouse-gas-specific rules.

Anyone who believes that Obama does not want to regulate greenhouse gases (so called) either has their head in the sand or are just naive.

Obama has been selling this mess as beneficial. There has been no hesitation on his part whatsoever.

What is true in the op is that Obama is trying to blame it on someone else so that when it has negative consequences he appears not to be responsible. That is true and common for him.

Hey, Crabtown, this is going to cost families about $1,000 more per year. But what's a little money if it will hurt farmers and rural people and touch off a recession and abolish some more jobs?

New spin to the same old stuff--the "rules" are only as effective as their enforceability. Paying the fines is still cheaper than following the rules. Most of the folk on this globe do not care about green house gases anyway. Daily survival is the primary motivation.

Energy runs the show; clean energy is an elusive pipedream. Let's study it some more. In the meanwhile: buy stock in gas masks.

Congress has a chronic case of gridlock. Time to start over: no incumbency or pensions for legislators.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Personally I like that they are gridlocked. I want them doing less. Much less.

Blame Congress. Politicians in both parties have had almost 50 years to do something and have done very little other than kick the can down the road. Of course now they scream, but it is their fault.

Why didn't they act if they are so concerned about rulings now?

Because they didn't think we were ready to accept the kind of anti American global government Obama is pushing so hard to enslave us under.

The science is bogus, the idea that there is a global consensus is bogus, most everything that comes out of Obama's mouth is bogus. He is the most anti American pro global government "president" we've ever had.

Anyone that believes that this guy is doing anything other than destroying this country to bring us all under the rule of a bunch of unelected Malthusian sociopaths has rocks in their head.

    That's why.

Aaron, politicians in both parties are to blame. There is enough guilt for all to share.
