The problem is this sort of a tax scheme would drive the national debt through the roof at an accelerated pace. The amount of revenue lost by giving the rich the biggest tax cut in history would create budgetary red ink with no end.

The wealthy would not pay more with a flat tax. A flat tax would be a tax cut for the wealthy. With all the loopholes they now enjoy they still pay about 18% to 20% of their gross income in taxes. You are proposing eliminating the loopholes with a 10% flat tax and therefore cutting their taxes in half.

Hey! Here is an idea, instead of dealing with the increasing debt by taking more money from tax payers wealthy or otherwise, let's just stop the spending.

Agree that spending is the problem. Let's leave the tax rates the way they are and start some real spending cuts.

The big problem is the Government is spending way tooooo much money.
Cut the waste!

Double dipping is a big problme

the Feds are involved in too many things.

Case in point - I work for a C-Store chain - recently the Fed did a string operation for underage beer sales.
Why are the Feds doing this - that should be the responsibility of the local govt.
All these Seat belt checkpoints around holidays are done by local police - BUT funded by the FEDS!
Farmers are paid NOT to grow crops.
When I got out of the Army - there was a policy - for example a GI is stationed at Ft Carson, Co, he gets orders to go to Korea for one year with a direct assignment right back to Ft Carson. With his PCS orders, his family could move back to the East Coast at Govt Expense. A year later, the Army would move them back to Ft Carson. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!

Agree that spending is the problem. Let's leave the tax rates the way they are and start some real spending cuts.

The tax rates are a whole other issue that has its own problems even divorced from the debt. It gives too much power to the establishment such as Boehner and Obama.

It is also an unfair tax system since it is impossible to understand our own taxes and even tax experts struggle with the system. That should not be in America. We need a system that does not require accounts do do our taxes. It should be simple and even.
