Initially, she was granted a religious accommodation, and another attendant would serve alcoholic beverages; but then another attendant filed a complaint, and the religious accommodation was revoked, and the muslim attendant was placed on suspension. So now she's making a big fuss that she shouldn't have to give up her religious convictions in order to keep her job.

Me, personally, I think a lot of the "news reporters" asking her questions have missed the biggest question of all: Would she sign a marriage certificate for a gay couple? I'd really be interested in hearing her answer.

She needs to do her job or resign. When she took the job, she knew full well that part of the job was to serve alcohol. If she couldn't do it, she shouldn't have taken the job.

Did she ask about a religious accommodation before she got the job? I doubt it.

    Do the job or resign.

Muslim cab drivers at Minnesota's biggest airport will face new penalties including a two-year revocation of their taxi permits if they refuse to give rides to travelers carrying liquor or accompanied by dogs, the board overseeing operations ruled Monday.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission, responding to complaints about the liquor issue, voted unanimously to impose the new penalties beginning in May.

These people are losing their minds. Unless you work at the church or in a religious capacity, they need to hush about these religious accommodations.

God bless if your employer will work with you. But if they can't , either suck it up and do the job that you were hired to do or resign.

    WOW!!

The rapture has got to be before sun-down: I agree with Zaac!:laugh:

The job description was known (I feel sure) BEFORE she accepted, so the religious accommodation should have either been discussed as a condition of employment, OR, get outta Dodge!

Quite different from a change of duties AFTER accepting employment!

In this case, I side with both sides. She converted to Islam a year after accepting the job, and then a year later discovered that her newfound religion prohibited her from serving alcohol. It is the responsibility of the employer to decide whether or not they can accommodate religious beliefs, which they did for a while. Then, they changed their mind when another employee complained about three things: the woman not serving alcohol, the woman having a book with foreign writing, and the woman wearing a headdress.

The article never said whether or not the company allowed the break in uniform policy to accommodate her.

If the company has a position in which she may freely exercise her religion, then I feel it is their burden to accommodate her. If they can't, or the burden would be a great one, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with terminating her employment.

I don't see anyone doing wrong here yet. We'll see how it unfolds.

Woody has the correct points (she converted to islam after already being in the job).

The only thing about Woody's post is, she's stated she wants to continue to fly, not take another position.

And yes, just like Kim Davis, if she can't perform the required duties of the position, she should find another job. But unlike Kim Davis, the liberal media is helping to put pressure on the airline to let her keep her job.

Then they should grab her and throw her out the door of the plane and see how high she can get.

This is a business. If you can't do the job that you were hired to do, then go kick rocks.:wavey:

I have a different view on this. See, I think she could be reasonably accommodated for her religious restriction. I've never known a flight to fly with just one flight attendant so I don't think it was an outrageous request to have another flight attendant be the one to serve the alchohol. She could always be the one to do the safety demonstration or serve the snacks.

I am sorry, but I can't agree with you. When you sign up for a job, you either involve 100% or just don't do it at all. This is why a lot of people get to hate Islam, because a large part of the Muslim community thinks that just because they have a different religion, they are entitled to receive special treatment. Of course, when it comes to prayer and religious holidays, of course they should be respected but...keep in mind this: in Dubai there are a lot of hotels that serve alcohol. The workers there are muslims too and they don't seem to complain.

A person is hired to do a certain job. When they apply for the job they know the requirements and when they accept the job they are accepting the responsibilities that go with it. If she had informed her employer before she started that was the case then it would be different. In my opinion she needs to find another job with another company or stay within that company but change her position.

According to the story, she accepted Muslim beliefs after taking the job.

They initially did that. Then another attendant filed a complaint, presumably because he/she was having to take care of all the passengers who wanted alcoholic beverages rather than just his/her assigned area.

When that happened, it was no longer a "reasonable" accommodation.
