I'd be surprised if that's the only bugs the books have to be honest. A lot of the books in the library will have been in hundreds of homes throught the years and not all of them spotless!

Does a report like this come as THAT much of a surprise to people?

When America was great, our libraries were clean and we did not have bedbugs all over the country as we do now. We need to allow DDT for interior use.

"When America was great"? Bedbugs have existed here since before the U.S. was the U.S.

Politics has nothing to do with it.

Won't the book worms eat the bed bugs?

Don't worry, Trump will build a bedbug database and build a wall that the bedbugs will pay for. Trump '16.

The bed bug problem in books has been marginalized for far too long.

This makes perfect sense. Bed bugs are everywhere lately it seems. One can never be too careful. I always bring home books from the library and never really thought of this before.

I know the insect called Silverfish lives and eats paper, so you usually see them on old books. Bed bugs are blood suckers so they tend to congregate more on places were live hosts are present like in living rooms or houses. I am not saying this report is untrue, but pests can be controlled nowadays.

I've stopped taking this post seriously after this statement. Libraries are wonderful places that invigorate the soul, stir the mind, and evoke deeper consciousness. A shame on anyone who considers them paltry or fool-hearty.

Save for the birth defects that are the result of using DDT...

This isn't nearly as big a problem as the link in the OP suggests. Go visit your public library today, it is a great place.

Oh goodness, yet another thing to be weary about. I love going to libraries but the books always kind of gross me out. Being the neat freak germophobe that I am, I always wonder about whose hands were on this book before me and whether they had clean hands. I'm always shocked at how many people use the bathroom without washing their hands, so that is always running through my mind when I read library books.

Really, calling libraries the poor man's reading room is a very old expression. I have no idea why it would offend anyone.

I have always brought books from public libraries, and so far, I have not encountered any issue regarding bedbugs. I must be lucky then.

Don't read the books while in bed and you'll be fine.
