I'm guess I'm just like other people when something strike me funny I laugh... Sometimes it strikes me so funny after thinking about it all laugh again... What does it mean in scripture that God laughs?... The Bible says he laughs and if we are made in his image, isn't it any wonder that we do too... Now I'll admit I am no authority on the Holy Laughter of God but what do you think?... As always your comments are appreciated... Brother Glen

Psalms 2:4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

One thing that I frequently thank God for is a sense of humor. I absolutely love a good belly laugh, & my family says that that will literally be how I die - laughing so hard that I'll burst a blood vessel in my head.

I'm convinced that God has a sense of humor, and the physical looks, characteristics, and antics of His created people AND animals seems to confirm!

Ever notice that those who lack a sense of humor are apparently more miserable than average?? A few posters on this board seem to fit this category.

I truly feel pity for anyone who can't laugh by reason of being uptight about so much piddlin stuff!

That's a lovely picture. It's interesting to think of what makes God smile. I was searching around a while ago for nice pictures and found the one of Jesus with the little children. Some artists are just amazing at what they're able to re-create! The artwork is also reminiscent of the story books we read as kids and of pictures seen in early Sunday School days :).

Looks like one of the Bee Gee's to me, particularly Barry Gibb. I'm just not into the 'picture of Jesus' thing, especially the Warner Sallaman pictures.

It is easy. Just watch how God works in your own life. It become very apparent that God has a great sense of humor and if you pay attention you will also get many laughs at yourself ... as long as you do not take yourself too seriously.

Ya to some extent, photos or paintings of Jesus can be misleading. Consider all the different variations of his physical form that have been depicted over the years and how different they are. Especially the Catholic religion seems to portray him as very "meek and mild" while perhaps more modern forms of Christianity portray him as they think he might be today - sociable and engaging.

In Paramahansa Yogananda's book, The Second Coming of Christ, he describes Jesus' likeness to that painted by noted artist Heinrich Hofmann, as the saint had a visitation by Jesus and could see the most similarity in physical likeness with this artist. Perhaps also it's not about focus on what Christ looked like but more so the energy he embodied. I wonder what it would feel like to be "with" him.

12 And the Lord spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice.

13 And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.

15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the Lord spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:

16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,

When I was younger I though Jesus Christ wasn't capable of being angry until I read the part about him getting mad at the market because it was outside a holy place and they were desecrating it. Now I realize Jesus is capable of any emotion even laughter, sorrow but most of all compassion. Now I see that He is both human and divine.

Again, I ask you to tell me how so and concerning what exactly?

I see this as nothing more than flattery. Of self, and not of God. It places (in ones mind only) Him on a lower plane and makes man feel more comfortable and makes in my honest opinion God a little lower than what He is.

What do the Scriptures say about this? Not some subjective feeling a person had gotten, but what has the God of Scripture revealed about this in the Scriptures?

I do not believe that God has emotions.
God's Holy attributes are perfections unlike man who lacks God's in communicable attributes.

Really? Was God showing emotion in:

    1. Psalm 2:4
    2. When the Bible talks about God's anger, is that emotion?
    3. How can perfect attributes be emotionless?
    4. What about the following passages?

    • Anger – Psalm 7:11; Deuteronomy 9:22; Romans 1:18
    • Laughter – Psalm 37:13; Psalm 2:4; Proverbs 1:26
    • Compassion – Psalm 135:14; Judges 2:18; Deuteronomy 32:36
    • Grief – Genesis 6:6; Psalm 78:40
    • Love – 1 John 4:8; John 3:16; Jeremiah 31:3
    • Hate – Proverbs 6:16; Psalm 5:5; Psalm 11:5
    • Jealousy – Exodus 20:5; Exodus 34:14; Joshua 24:19
    • Joy – Zephaniah 3:17; Isaiah 62:5; Jeremiah 32:41

    Hello C

God has only perfections.....but we as created beings have changing passions and emotions.
God communicates to us in a way we can understand.
God is Spirit. He does not have body parts but he speaks of His right arm or hand.

So you are saying that the Bible does not mean what the words say. Interesting.

The words in the Bible mean exactly what they say when rightly understood
