It's sixteen years later. I wonder if there are more people in the U.S. than there were in 2000? Could that be the reason Trump has more votes than Bush got?

Also, realize that more people voted for a Republican not named Trump than voted for Bush in the primaries, and that happened weeks ago.

Lets not also forget that this primary season has been longer than most. McCain was the last hold out against Bush and He dropped out March 9th 2000. Bush also got 62% of the vote a clear majority compared to Trumps 40% which is a plurality not a majority and there is a huge difference between the two.

Some are saying that the primary turnout is just GOP voters who usually only vote in November.

Trump says that he does not need conservatives to win and I take him at his word. I think that Trump hopes to pickup dissatisfied Democrats who dislike Bill Clinton and Hillary in November, but I have no idea. Trump will get most of the Libertarian votes due to the same stands on social issues.

Reganism is dead. Trump is the 3rd moderate in a row from the GOP. The first two did not have much luck. We'll see what this rich man can do.

Love him or hate him - maybe we ought to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee.

He overthrew 17 competing contenders (Governors, senators, brain surgeon, female CEO - private citizen).
    He overthrew the Bush dynasty.
He survived the nay-saying of every pundit who predicted his downfall.
He survived a multi million dollar hate campaign (including the GOP) of thousands of media ads.
He has achieved this new record of Republican primary votes.

I think some people need to get used to the idea of President Trump.

Why? Is Hillary dropping out of the race?

That's the only way he can win.

The typical left slanted news media has and always will spin the news to Billary's advantage hoping/scheming that (e.g.) if they say it ("Hillary can beat Trump") enough along with "proof" of some jury-rigged polls the sheeple will buy it, thereby affecting their votes in her direction. A proven Marxist tactic.

They are doing it to the Nevertrump crowd, telling us that we are few and won't make a difference. But given how many screeds I have seen directed at us I would say we are a bigger group than they want to admit. Not to mention that on the left there are Bernie supporters that are NeverHilary, they just are not getting the same press as the Nevertrump is. This will be a historical election no matter the outcome.

Indeed it will be 318. As I said before, I will not be overjoyed when Trump takes the presidency (in all probability).

However if somehow he is able to keep just two of his promises 1.) Overthrow Roe vs Wade and 2.) appoint conservative constitutional SCOTUS judges then I'll give God the glory (not Trump) for His intervention in our nations history. My prayers to that end.

    Otherwise, weeping, wailing, etc...

Easier said than done. Since Trump insists that he has principles and doesn't need conservatives, I may not have to hold my nose as I did with McCain and Romney. I can just standby and watch.

The real question is not that he has the most votes ever (and I suppose the most votes ever against a candidate) but can he reach a majority of the GOP by the end of the season with no opposition.

And the second question is will the GOP fixed a flawed system that allows a candidate with a plurality to obtain a majority of convention votes? If the GOP does not repair the system, there could be other demagogues who cash in as Trump has. Actually, if the GOP does not fix the system at the convention, then the GOP deserves to lose in November.
