Why Trump was 100 percent right to revoke the Washington Post's press credentials

In his comments following the Orlando terrorist attack, Trump suggested that President Obama either doesn't understand the nature of the radical Islamist threat against the nation, or perhaps on some level has some sympathy for the position of the radical Islamists. That is hardly a novel theory. Many have advanced it. We have done so here.

The Post reported this with the following headline: “Donald Trump Suggests President Obama Was Involved With Orlando Shooting.” That was a flat-out, bold-faced, 100 percent intentional lie. At no point did Trump suggest any such thing, and as soon as he became aware of the headline, Trump denounced the Post for making the claim.

Almost immediately, the Post changed the headline in its online edition to the mealy-mouthed "Donald Trump Seems to Connect President Obama to Orlando Shooting." Even that is an utter fabrication. Trump's statement was certainly harsh, even to the point where he called on Obama to resign for being either unwilling or unable to deal with the threat in a serious way. But suggesting that Obama had something to do with the shooting is not even in the same universe with what Trump said.

So does the punishment fit the crime? Absolutely. Contrary to what you've been hearing, Trump did not revoke the Post's credentials because they've been critical of him. He revoked them because they're just plain making stuff up about him. The media environment being what it is, a headline is written, it gets shared on social media thousands of times - and many people don't even click to read the story. They simply saw on Facebook or Twitter that Trump said Obama was involved in the shooting. And hey! It wasn't just from some nutty fringe web site. It was from the Washington Post!

If this is the tantrum that Trump throws over a WaPo story I wonder how Trump will deal with Putin?

The Washington Post is not the first outlet to be banned by the Trump campaign; others include Politico, BuzzFeed, The Huffington Post, The Daily Beast, The Des Moines Register, the Union Leader, Univision and Fusion.

    Yeah, he is.

If this is the tantrum that Trump throws when [Megyn Kelly asks him a tough question] I wonder how Trump will deal with Putin?

If this is the tantrum that Trump throws when [ fill in the blank ] I wonder how Trump will deal with Putin?

Fill in the underlined portion with multiple choices:

[a Univision reporter interrupts a press conference]
[paper runs a story about him impersonating his own press agent]
[Mitt Romney holds a press conference]
[Wisconsin talk radio people talk negatively about him]
[NY Times runs a story about women who have worked with Trump]
    [Charles Krauthammer reads poll results]

etc. etc. like a broken record (well, a record with a skp in it. Technically, a broken record wouldn't be playable.)

Thank you. And I know folks say to not mention that WWII character when it comes to Presidential elections. But didn't he do the same thing and killed a lot of the press who he could not control to display him favorably..

I thought the right was supposed to be big on the Constitution. So I find myself wondering why folks on the right aren't making a big stank about his continued attempts to stop a free press?

"Oh, he'll change once he's elected. He'll have an attorney general, a chief of staff and others to keep him in line. He's going to be so darn Presidential." <swoon>

Trump banned BuzzFeed because they banned him first.

BuzzFeed broke their $1.3 million advertising agreement with the RNC when Trump won the nomination.

I bet his creditors wished they could have done that to him when he filed bankruptcy 3 or 4 times.

Probably not that much, but he still won't be Hillary Clinton.

If he were, he'd be the first US female President.

I'm with the Trumpster on this one. He should cut off completely all those who ask him tough questions or espouse a viewpoint he doesn't agree with. That's what we want from a president, right? Hate your enemies, vilify those who despitefully use you. (Trump's translation, which was used at Trump University for a sizable royalty fee that was off the books.)

As to whether Trump wanted to connect Obama to the Orlando shooting, some members here (perhaps under the Trumpian spell) have done the same. Yes, The Donald didn't exactly say that, but — wink, wink — that was the import. More power to him. He can say whatever he wants. Remember that truth is the first casualty of war and Trump is knee deep in the trenches.

All of it is true. Some of it is factual. I leave it to you to decide what is and what isn't. All the important parts, BTW, are true, just to give a hint, as well as being factual.

Why am I not surprised that Trump does not believe in freedom of the press. I wonder what other constitutional guarantees there are that he does not believe in?

The Washington Post is reprehensible but Trump himself wondered why no one was talking about the Cruz family involvement in the Kennedy assassination as published by Trump ally the owner of National Enquirer.

So why is Trump whining about something that he himself has done?

I agree with Trump that he could murder someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it.

Your hero, the zero, is much much worse.

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/19/us/ferguson-journalists-arrested/

Six journalists were taken into custody while covering the protests in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday and early Tuesday, aggravating what one press freedom group has called a "concerted, top-down effort to restrict the fundamental First Amendment rights of the public and the press."

The incidents bring the total number of journalists arrested during the mid-August protests to 11.
Other journalists reported being threatened with arrest and affected by tear-gas on Monday night. Authorities tried to restrict members of the news media to a designated area away from the protests, sometimes nicknamed a "press pen."

The latest arrests came on the same day that President Barack Obama reaffirmed his support for journalists on the ground in Ferguson. "Let me also be clear that our constitutional rights to speak freely, to assemble, and to report in the press must be vigilantly safeguarded, especially in moments like these," the President said at a Monday afternoon news conference.

A couple of hours later, Getty Images photographer Scott Olson was arrested. Getty, one of the main suppliers of photos to news outlets around the world, immediately condemned the police action.

Obama Has Sentenced Whistleblowers to 25 Times the Jail Time of All Prior U.S. Presidents COMBINED

And Obama Is Arguably More Hostile Towards The Press Than Any President In History

The Obama administration has prosecuted more whistleblowers than all other presidents combined.

This administration has also obtained much longer jail sentences against whistleblowers than previous presidents.

ACLU legislative counsel Gabe Rottman noted last October:

The Obama administration has secured 526 months of prison time for national security leakers, versus only 24 months total jail time for everyone else since the American Revolution.

(So – as of October – Obama had thrown whistleblowers in jail for 22 times longer than all other presidents.)
