‘Learning Curve’ as Rick Perry Pursues a Job He Initially Misunderstood

Trump promised to pick the best and brightest. Interesting that Perry had no real idea of what the Energy Department was all about when he was offered the job and thought he would be a governmental lobbyists for the energy industry. I do not find this encouraging, a man in charge of the nuclear arsenal who knows nothing about the job required.

From: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/18/us/politics/rick-perry-energy-secretary-donald-trump.html

When President-elect Donald J. Trump offered Rick Perry the job of energy secretary five weeks ago, Mr. Perry gladly accepted, believing he was taking on a role as a global ambassador for the American oil and gas industry that he had long championed in his home state.

In the days after, Mr. Perry, the former Texas governor, discovered that he would be no such thing — that in fact, if confirmed by the Senate, he would become the steward of a vast national security complex he knew almost nothing about, caring for the most fearsome weapons on the planet, the United States’ nuclear arsenal.

Yup. FakeNews.

Sent from my Moto Droid Turbo.

This one is probably true. I talked with a man who worked with Perry when Perry was the governor of Texas. His comment was, "Perry is really not smart. It was terrible trying to work with him."

Perry, so it seems, was a front man for other smart people who manipulated him for their own gains.

The crux of the NYTimes article was that Perry didn't know that one of the roles of the Energy Department was to maintain and safeguard our nuclear arsenal. That is patently false. Just look at the quote he gave on the day it was announced that he was nominated:
