In a strange story, it seems that Carmela Batista, the daughter of Cuban dictator Fulgenico Batista by Marina Estevez, escaped the firing squads of Fidel Castro and inherited money from her father but lost it all in the stock market crash of 2008. A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Carmela Batista lost her property and her money and ended up homeless in a Fort Lauderdale park with an adopted daughter Ana Batista and a pet cat.

There is a 4 1/2 minute video from Fort Lauderdale ABC television, which broadcast the story. Since then Ana Batista was offered a job in Orlando and hopefully this elderly lady, daughter of Fulgencio Batista has been provided for.

Here is the link to the full television video and the written story:

That's odd.

I find nothing about Fulgenico Batista indicating he had a daughter named Carmela.
His mother was named Carmela and died in 1916.

His 2nd wife died in 2006 and her own funeral notice says nothing about a daughter named Carmela.

Castro hated Batista because his grandparents on one side had been slaves. Castro was a racist deluxe.

Carmela was the daughter of a woman that her father had not married. Batista did leave Carmela around $1,000,000.

lost it all in the stock market crash of 2008.
How? The market declined starting from October 9, 2007 by 54% to 6,469 before beginning to recover from its peak of 14,164.

It is now closing at 21,394.76 as of yesterday. (DJIA)

Had she held on to her stocks she should have made (with an investment portfolio reflecting the DJIA) a >50% profit by now.
