I was going to put this on the Creation vs Evolution forum, but it's not really a fit there. It's more of a news thing.

I find this interesting, and new that some others on the BB would as well.

Massive black hole discovered near heart of the Milky Way

Interesting but speculative. Nobody has proven the existence of black holes. I found the one phrase "biggest black hole ever seen" to be especially funny.

Nobody has seen a black hole. That is why they are called "black holes."

I agree. That is kind of like saying "never seen darkness." Though it is technically correct, we all know the concept trying to be conveyed.

I will grant you that they aren't proven to exist. But the observation of gravity waves in 2015(?) was made possible by the collision and merging of two bodies presumed to be black holes, and the waves acted as predicted if two black holes were to merge.

For me, I believe the evidence for the existence of black holes is strong enough to assume that they are real.

Gee, Hubble has taken photos of them. After all a black circle surrounded by lighted objects is visible.

    See:

And the McDonald Observatory also has taken photos ....

You don't 'see' darkness like you don't 'hear' silence. You can see the light around a black hole, but that is light which has not reached the point of inescapability.

I know they are real. I saw a space ship get sucked into one in an old Disney movie. Only thing I can't figure out is how they got the film out of the black hole and back to Earth.

Well, see, that's the thing -- that happened in the future, and the super gravity of the black hole combined with relativistic effects, super-compressed the transmission, causing it to be received in the past, which means we have the opportunity to change those events because we now know about them, except they've happened which means they can't be changed and we have to watch them unfold already knowing full well how it will play out....
