The National Rifle Association (NRA) is threatening legal action to stop a seizure of guns and ammunition by U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp (I) ahead of Hurricane Irma, the group said Tuesday.

"People need the ability to protect themselves during times of natural disaster," said Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA'S Institute for Legislative Action. "This dangerous order violates the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens and puts their lives at risk."

In an order on Monday, Mapp activated the National Guard to "restore public order, and to guarantee the safety of life and property" in anticipation of the hurricane, the Daily Caller first reported.

With many people now without basic services like shelter, potable water, food, etc, it would be insane to waste 1st-responder/LEO time implementing a confiscation order. Would also offer free rein to scofflaw looters and other criminals. This seems beyond what even The Onion would produce.

Maybe so, but Tucker Carlson read the law to the governor while on the air,asking for an explanation, I heard him.

I also heard the governor stumbling over his words in a weird justification/denial.

What Tucker read was confiscation plain and simple, what the governor did was deception plain and simple IMO.

Not for sure, but I think the Guard may consider confiscation of weapons of the citizenry an unlawful order. The governor can be prosecuted for giving unlawful orders--see malfeasance of office and impeachment. "Just following orders" does not wash. Lawful orders is an interesting paradox. See the adventures of Lt. Calley, Viet Nam Era.

Louisiana is a special case. The whole barrel is corrupted--waste, fraud and abuse are rampant at all levels. Gov. Edwin Edwards was incarcerated for taking kickbacks from the casino crowd. His major crime: having been caught.

Usually when someone in a high place is prosecuted they are being scapegoated. Lt. Calley was a scapegoat. Tough decisions: what does one do with an enemy puts sachel charges around pregnant women in an effort to kill you? War is living hell on earth.

Spiro Agnew and Richard Nixon were probably scapegoats too. Satan is alive and well on planet earth--not much longer.

All said and done, it is still better than sharia law.
