LiAngelo Ball and his two UCLA basketball teammates were freed from Chinese custody early Tuesday after President Donald Trump intervened on their behalf.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill had all boarding a Delta flight home after being detained for over a week. They slipped out of possibly serving up to ten years for allegedly stealing from a Louis Vuitton store in Hangzhou, China.

Trump spoke directly to Chinese President Xi Jinping about the players during his trip to Asia, and now they’re out less than 24 hours later.

The ball is now in UCLA’s court to decide how to deal with these young men.

I'm thinking they won't be "dealt with" at all.

I wish Trump had stayed out of it. If they didn't learn anything from the guy who tried to steal a poster in NoKo, then they need to become a little more accustomed to REALITY!

My sense is they will be suspended for a game or two at most, and then it will all be a big joke.

Do you really want these guys coming back to the US on a stretcher in a coma? And then dying?

Trump did it to become the good guy in front of their families. It won't make a difference though, he will still be hated by them.

So what would be a reasonable punishment by the team?

My first instinct says suspend them for the rest of the season -
Which means loss of their scholarships.
But if that happens - they will either just enroll in another school
    or go pro.

Now Squire, did you really get this from my statement??
I said they (the three) needed to LEARN from the other guy’s fate!

Whatever the law in China is. 10 years at hard labor, which is the normal sentence, sounded good to me.

We leave them in prison in other countries if they break the law. You all for springing the drug traffickers out of the clink in Central and South America?

Nope, if they are problem inmates, bury them in China. Foreign countries have laws. Follow them if you go there. If not, the countries have prisons and in some case executioners. For the record, I hate a thief. I would rather someone try to kill me than to steal from me.

I wouldn't have any problems with these guys spending some time as guests of the PRC in one of its labor camps. I guess having in-laws and acquaintances who spent time in the Soviet Gulag colors my POV. What the DPRK's prisons did to the young man is not the action of a sane prison system.

And as a foreigner, I would not have traveled to Russia at that time. I probably would not go there today.
