People only lived to their 40's or 50's in the past

    So they say from today's advanced medical procedures. People often died in the 40's or 50's because they did not have proper medical intervention and today's advancements. Don't believe it! I find that medical advancements focus on primarily TWO areas;

    1) Trauma medicine which deals with how to deal with injuries and bacterial problems from such, and...
    2) prevention of CERTAIN diseases from inoculation (not routine stuff such as flu)

other than that, medical philosophy has nothing over that of the past. In fact, the book of Revelation mentions people being deceived by Pharmaceuticals.

In short, with the exception of #1, and #2, people do not live longer today. Our earliest presidents were free of # 1 and # 2 and indeed lived as long as present day people and presidents.

So the moral of the story is that anything other than #1 and #2, medical philosophy is useless, e.g. preventing disease, high cholesterol, high BP, cancer and so forth. As a matter of fact. the diseases that plague people today were not present in the past. Make sure you are well nourished. Take supplements that are antioxidant and you'll be fine, despite the numbers the doctor might try to get you to take pills for. My greatest wish is that Christians be free from this huckster mentality pushed on us and everyone else.

Sanitation has lengthened the average lifespan.
    Vaccinations have lengthened lifespans.
Antibiotics have increased the average lifespan significantly.
The availability of effective medicines have also played a part.

This is anecdotal but I can recount a few illnesses that were it not for antibiotics and modern medicine I'd be dead.

At age 38, after genetic testing confirmed my Lynch Syndrome, I had an 8 mm cancerous polyp removed during a colonoscopy.

Given another 12 years to grow...well, I'll just say that I don't plan on relying solely on supplements and antioxidants.

Sanitation is not really medical. It's knowledge of lessening germs and infection. I forgotten to mention that a lot of past maladies were from improper or imbalanced nutrition but again, that's not medical, but nutritional.

All your other points I covered in category #1. In other words, what we advanced against was better knowledge of sanitation, nutrition (not that it's always pushed), trauma (injury) and disease which is an outside influence. Most of today's chronic illnesses have not been addressed. I would consider the so-called treatments for them light years behind medicine such as antibiotics that kill bacteria (a fancy micro-bug extermination if you will).

That's trauma medicine. They now know better how to remove a tumor that in the past they could not. Compare it to a plumber who has a better way of opening a clog. But that's removing a tumor. Radiation sometimes does that as well. But.... if it spreads, then look at your choices. There's only one. Ask the Lord to heal you. They got better at removing (or fixing something broken), but it does not heal anything. It does not cure anything. The mechanism for your cancer is still there. So, maybe there's something nutritional you can consider to help your body prevent it in the future? I would rely on supplements and antioxidants helping. Sounds like you already know something about it. In that case, blessings and well-wishes-- I hope you can rise above your health problems. 38 is way too young for that-- that's not much older than my kid. Something went wrong somewhere.

Thank you for your kind words. But that's not trauma medicine. That's genetics. An ER doctor didn’t have anything to do with it. My geneticist from UNC advised me to begin colonoscopies, which one normally starts at age 50, at age 35.

So as far as preventive measures, I don't believe checking someone's DNA or inserting cameras into someone are measures that have been around too long. We've come a long way with medicines, also.

Regardless, I still don't see why I should believe your premise that the diseases we're suffering from now didn’t exist in the past. Sure, new diseases develop, just look at AIDS or syphilis. But heart disease, cancer, diabetes, these are not new.

LOL. No I meant the treatment I classify as a form of trauma medicine -- cut out/ remove/replace type stuff on par with a mechanical fix. For example, someone can be born with short legs and need a ladder where others do not to fix the problem. Your doctors supplied the ladder so-to-speak. The person still has short legs, and a primitive person may not have known about ladders so it can be stated that they "advanced" but the point being is the situation is the same. I did not mean trauma as to what your cancer was caused by.

I have to see where I can find that historical article I read when the EKG was first invented monitoring the waves of a heart attack patient. The new doctor was thrilled that this could be a new machine to detect abnormalities in the heart and maybe forewarn of a heart attack. The old school doctor said to him to the effect, "That machine will never be needed. The condition is so rare that it would not be worth it."

Back then they had inflammation in the form of dropsy and other water retention things causing congestive heart failure, but not clogged arteries like today. I suspect a major contributor of that in the past was alcohol and lack of certain vitamins that alcohol takes away. My whole premise is disease (outside influence), nutrition (body's health to fight outside influence) and emergency treatment is where they advanced, but mostly people are being treated on chronic conditions (usually a high numbers malady) in which medication is the make-up on a pig to make it look pretty not to mention loads of side-effects. Lifespan is not increased. Last I read, something like 70% of all medical costs are medications (e.g. #1 Lipidor), unneeded surgeries, and tests, tests and more tests. The bonafide 30% fall in the other range I stated.

There is another stat to consider - 50 years ago - over 50,000 people died in Auto collisions every year.
That number has dropped to the high 30's-to low 40's. That's an addition 10,000 people still living (per year) - so
over the past 20 years - that's some 200,000 Americians still alive.

One of the reasons we have disease that were not prevalent in times past is that people are living longer.
We live longer because of the practices we have developed to reduce early deaths. (Simple things like simple hand washing between patient contacts reduced the infant and maternal mortality significantly adding decades to the average lifespan).

We reduce early death by aggressively attacking risk factors.

I deal with heart disease in the work I do. The risk factors associated with heart disease include age, sex, diabetes, smoking, diet (cholesterol), activity level, high blood pressure, etc.
Some risk factors we can change, some we have to live with.
We can’t change our sex, we can’t stop getting older but we can adjust our activity levels and diet; we can control our blood pressure, we can control diabeties.
Reduce risk factors and you reduce the potential for early death.

This huckster medicine you mention (antioxidants and supplements) are simply ineffective, unregulated pharmaceuticals which do not change the risk factor profile in any meaningful way.

Don’t be fooled and ignore the blessings God has provided to this generation through modern medicine.
Take advantage and apply every opportunity to reduce risk factors.
Realize that risk factor reduction is simply is a numbers game; be aware of symptoms that alert you of potential problems.
Sometimes God takes those with low risk factors early, other times those with high risk factors live a long and productive life.

Not with Lipitor I hope. LOL. And I actually supplement on cholesterol. No, I'm not sold on pharmaceuticals and not convinced such medications make one live longer. And controlling numbers does not heal. Again... the make-up on a pig. As for antioxidants, you are simply wrong about them. The dosages of antioxidants/vitamins,etc that they experiment with, most of what I read is simply too low. Then again, there's "use a vitamin as a medicine" philosophy. My father-in-law was put on vitamin E by the doctor for some condition. I asked, "Where is your vitamin A? Where is your B-complex? ...." He did not know. The doctor only put him on partial nutrition and expect it to work "like taking a pill". A thousand times wrong. Then when it does not work, the result is a parroted quote about nutrition not working. I can go on and on. But what I have found is that in the past people died early because of disease or accidents they could not fix. I already acknowledged that. Those who passed those points lived very long, just as our first few presidents had the same average lifespan as modern day presidents. These were probably well-nourished people, that did not ruin their lives by too much drink or bad habits, and had a knack for proper personal care that others (and poor people) did not have. Thus, if we average a bunch of 10-year-olds that died from illness, malnutrition, infant mortality etc and a bunch of 80-year-olds like our past presidents, of course you will average about 45 years old. But those who made it to then, unless they had a mishap, were very likely to live long like the presidents.

As stated in Revelation 18:23, it speaks of Babylon in the end times. So many things that started as good were take advantage of by big corporations and special interests. Most people over 50 are on some sort of medication because they are told they "need" them (when diet and exercise don't help, you need.......) when they otherwise feel healthy. But as that verse says, and continuously haunts me, as the nations were deceived by thee things.
