The Ultimate Question - Did God Create Himself?

God did not "come" at all, He just is. "I am that I am" also means "I was that I was", and "I will be what I will be." Given the concept of eternity, the above question does not have a meaningful answer. It's similar to asking a mathematician, "How much is infinity?"

 

God has always existed, as he is Eternal and self existent He was/is the First Cause of all other things, as all are dependent upon Him to create themn, energy/matter/time/space etc!.

This is an age old question, but leads to an absurdity if affirmed. For anything or anyone to create itself or himself, it or he would have to already be in existence before the creative act, which is logically absurd. Nothing can be self-created, including God. God is eternally self-existent--no beginning, no end. He is not just a being, he is being and the source of all other being. I just read, and highly recommend, a related book by RC Sproul called Not a Chance, though he may address this in more detail elsewhere.

By the way, properly speaking, scientists cannot deal with such questions as scientists. They only deal with things in and a part of this universe or cosmos. Cosmologists might deal with the beginnings of the universe, but their discipline only points to the necessity of God’s existence, and transcendence. This is strictly a question for philosophers and theologians, or at least one of philosophy and theology.

I remember when my youngest was in turmoil. "Who created God?" She asked tearfully?

No one, I said. He has always been.

But that doesn't make sense! (She was only 10)

You can't think of God like you think of man. He is nothing like a man. He is too big to be comprehended with the mind of man.

But you can't escape the difficulty by abandoning the notion of a Creator. If there is no Creator, then nothing created the universe (or mulitverse for you Relativity Nazi's) either. So something had to have always been.

The difficulty never since posed a danger to her faith.

Frankly, I have never had a scientist ask this question. Most of them assume I believe God, and those that don't and are resistant to the Gospel are considered dogs. I don't try to argue or debate, that is a worthless endeavor.
