Southern Democrat Rebukes Trump for Lax Church Attendance

When Trump visited a church in IOWA during the campaign he put a $1 bill into the communion plate. To me this indicated a total lack of interest and understanding of the Christian faith. Christianity is not about mouthing "Christian statements" to get votes.

I'd say, post 9/11 and all, I don't see a sitting President being able to attend the same church and teach Sunday school Jimmy Carter style anymore. Too much disruption, security-wise. A small group meeting at the White House would probably be the best course, if I was occupying the Oval Office.

I wonder how much cash he keeps in his wallet. I hardly ever keep cash, and have to really make a conscious effort to pull some out for our monthly Brotherhood meetings.

It's not like Trump is stopping by the store for a jug of milk on the way home from the office.

I'm really not sure the President is saved yet. Maybe instead of partisan rebuking this guy might try some civility and show a good testimony.

Amazing how they rebuke Trump over this, yet turn the other cheek at abortion mass murder.

Trump is a nominal Presbyterian or something. The GOP passed on Cruz, as you know, and before that they nominated Romney and before that McCain--what is McCain? We just had 8 years of Obama, whom everyone suspects of being a Muslim and who openly criticized Evangelicals at every opportunity. If Hillary is anything other than a religious leftist, let me know, and her daughter Chelsea just sent Best Wishes for the New Year to some church of Satan. I suppose Cherokee Warren believes in the great spirit....

I think we the Church would be wise, though, to not worry about a politician's Christian credentials. It's really irrelevant to the job of governing. Some Christians govern well, some do not. Some unbelievers govern well, others do not. Carter had biblical soteriology but Reagan had biblical governing policies. The Church recognized this and backed the latter. Policy is everything.

The gospel is a function of the Church. We apply the Timothy/Titus tests to our Church leaders. Governing is different. God's institution of Government precedes the Church, Israel and even Abraham. It goes all the way back to Genesis 9. The only test we should be applying to politicians is the Romans 13 test. Sadly, many Christians fail that test.

article by the SBC's Baptist Press:

McCain Family's Southern Baptist Pastor Says the Senator is "Committed to Christ"
The U.S. senator from Arizona was raised Episcopalian but has been attending North Phoenix Baptist Church for approximately the past 15 years
McCain's pastor says he's confident McCain is an authentic Christian. "He has a strong faith and he is committed to Christ," North Phoenix Baptist pastor Dan Yeary told Baptist Press. "I don't have any doubt about it."

He says he is a member of the Marble Collegate Church in NYC and McCain claims to be a Eposcopial (sp). Let’s see, Clinton is a United Methodist.

The GOP also passed on Scott Walker, a practicing Baptist who’s father is a Baptist pastor. I would bet Lucifer....no, don’t let me go there.

Hillary is the United Methodist and may become a preacher there. Bill was SBC.

The other SBC president was Harry Truman, no longer popular with the Democrats because he used atomic weapons against the Japanese and referred to his critics on the subject as cry-babies--probably what we would call pajama boys and snowflakes nowadays.

You make my point. Identity politics is a trap Satan will use to deceive you. "Hey, I can support murder. Look, this Christian candidate over here supports it." But the Church has been discerning over the decades. You haven't. But generally, the Church sees these traps.
