War on Choice: UK Government Sets ‘Calorie Cap’ for Pizzas...

928 calories!?

So - to our British members - what happens if you make a 3000 calorie pizza (like my Italian grandmother's pizza) at home - PIZZA Special Forces Police raid?

To be forthright - I don't think I could handle a pizza of less than 1000 calories (I probably should have) Sounds like a soda cracker with ketchup on it.

I remember the cooking smells and odors of my Italian grandmother's house.

EVERY Sunday after mass we would go over from East Boston to the North End.

HOT BREAD! spaghetti sauce, sometimes lasagna cooking, simmering.
A blast of coffee aroma in the air.
Even as little children we were given coffee, a cup of coffee with a biscotti cookie IN the cup.

An eight hour meal following. 10,000 calories? Hey it was only once a week.

Yeah those Italians. My friends mother used to ply us with all that stuff plus the big salad and that great tasting round Italian bread with the good crust. And I had already ate dinner at my house no less! Oh man, those were the days!

Everybody has traditions... but Italians make food and family the most cherished ones that I think fondly about.... and Christmas being particularly festive.... and nobody made ravioli like my grandma... plus the pastry, plus the biscotti, plus Italian butter cookies, plus the pumpkin pie, bread, bean soups... oh god that woman could cook. You’d start smelling it around 4am with the coffee and biscotti and a few pork buts and sausages show cooking in tomato sauce —to make the sauce more thicker and flavorful. You would take the bread and dip it.... madona Mia, that was Nona’s way of showing love!

Well my friend, that goes without saying!

My moms 2 last wishes were white pizza and cannoli. :Smile
I can identify, also torrone nougat candy - not quite as popular but whenever I go back to the North End to visit I get some torrone, buy a cannoli,(ot two) have a real italian sub sandwich on real hard crust Italian bread, then a slice or two of real pizza.

Please, do not get me started on Italian food. I was raised with an Italian mother and Scottish father. My parents split when I was young, so I was raised from the Italian side of my family. @HankD , North Jersey Italians are similar to Boston Italians. My grandmother would have a pot of gravy on all day. Homemade meatballs, braciole, cavatelli, and sweet/hot sausage. There was always a large provolone cheese hanging from a beam in the basement. In the summer it would sweat and drip on the floor. The aroma was intense. The knot cookies, pizzelles, and rum cake were to die for. God help the family member who did not show up for dinner on Sunday afternoon. Non mancare di rispetto alla cena di famiglia = do not disrespect the family dinner. Just thinking about those days makes me misty-eyed.

Food isn't the problem. The problem is overeating.

So perhaps the gov't should force its citizens to exercise everyday.

Of course, to get around this silly "calorie cap," I'd just eat two pizzas. LOL!! :D :D

NO WAY! No decent pizza has only 1000 calories.

Now if they mean 1000 calories per slice, I could go with that.

Or a mini personal pan pizza OK. :)
