At the moment you were born-again … you were only forgiven of the sins you had committed up to that point in time!

“For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his OLD sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for IF you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:9-11, NKJV)
“OLD sins” is also in the KJV, RSV, NLT, AMP

“having forgotten his purification from his FORMER sins.” (2 Peter 1:9, NASB) ... “FORMER sins” is also in the ESV

“forgetting that they have been cleansed from their PAST sins.” (2 Peter 1:9, NIV) ... “PAST sins” is also in the HCSB

Now for some confirming NT passages …

Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church concerning his words of rebuke in 1 Corinthians that he had sent to them concerning some particular sin(s). They really needed to be sorrowful and repent.
“… the pain (from his rebuke) caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants His people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. … worldly sorrow, which lacksrepentance, results in spiritual (eternal) death.” (2 Corinthians 7:8-10, NLT)

“Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.” (2 Corinthians 12:21, NLT)

Peter is warning believers about God’s destruction of all ungodly and unholy people:
“Then he used the water to destroy the ancient (ungodly) world … the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed. … He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed (perish spiritually), but (he) wants everyone to repent. … what holy and godly lives you should live … (you) make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
… I am warning you ahead of time … Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors …” (2 Peter 3:6-17, NLT)

John gives the condition for the Lord to forgive believers’ present sins:
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness (unrighteousness).” (1 John 1:9, NLT)
This is an extremely important verse … all men need to be repeatedly purified from all unrighteousness – from all their sins … We must confess our sins and turn from them … We must also confess them with our actions … (John) is talking here about repentance … we must hate our sins and turn from them. This is true repentance.
(The Applied New Testament Commentary; Dr. Thomas Hale)

2 verses later, John reminds believers to ask Jesus to plead our case before the Father:
“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.” (1 John 2:1, NLT)

Believers are responsible for repenting of their sins after they are born-again! They have been given the Holy Spirit, a totally new nature, and God’s word. So, they have been enabled to
be victorious overcomers over sin, the world, and the devil.
They have no excuse for failing to do this.

All sins, past, present, and future were laid on the Lord when He died for the sins of the world.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (KJV)

Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down* on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (KJV)

Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down* on the right hand of God; (KJV)

He paid for every sin that had been committed or that ever will be committed. When Christ died, all of our sins (yours and mine) were future sins. You are correct, however, that we must repent and seek the forgiveness of sins every day just as Jesus taught His disciples to do (Luke 11:4).

*sitting down was the indication that His work was completed.

    Pastor Bob,

You seem to be ignoring/rejecting all of the passages in the OP.
You are assuming that you have correctly interpreted the passages which you quoted.

Unfortunately for you and others, it is necessary to RECONCILE
all of the NT verses ... so they may be believed and accepted.
Stubbornly sticking to pet doctrines causes one to reject other verses, which do not agree with what they have been brain-
    washed with.

Years ago, I came to the NT with a totally OPEN heart and mind,
which proved to be a great blessing indeed -- because the blessed Holy Spirit was able to teach me the Truth about
    many spiritual matters.

P.S. There are great multitudes of BACs sitting in American church pews who are slaves of sin.
They are habitual unrepentant sinners (just like unbelievers).
Without sincere repentance, these BACs will never see heaven.
You should read what God has been saying to His prophets and watchmen about this; most of the blame rests on the shoulders of the pastors, who are the shepherds of the poor lost sheep.

I neither ignored nor rejected them. They are good verses and I believe exactly what they say. I was merely making a distinction between our sins being paid for on Calvary and the act of seeking forgiveness on a daily basis.

Of course that is my assumption. Is it your position that these passages do not support the fact that Jesus paid for our sins, past, present, and future on the Cross?

The verses you offered and the verses I offered do not contradict one another; at least in my opinion. There is no need to reconcile them.

The atonement is not a "pet doctrine," brother; it is a foundational doctrine.

Praise the Lord! May we all approach His Word with an open heart.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have no idea to what "BACs" refer.

I will say, if they are slaves to sin, they have chosen to be slaves to sin. Paul clearly tells us that we do not have to be slaves to sin.
Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    12 Let not
[our choice] sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it [our choice] in the lusts thereof.
    13 Neither yield ye
[our choice] your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves [our choice] unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
    (KJV)

I'll be the first to agree that there are saved people in our world today living just like lost people. They have grieved and quenched the Holy Spirit to the point that they have rendered Him inactive in their lives. They are not being led by the Spirit, nor are they walking in the Spirit. Consequently, they are living just like a lost man who has not the Spirit of God.

Again, I'm not sure what "BACs" are; but, if this individual was truly saved, they're still saved.

    Are you into answering questions?
If so, why is it that BACs refuse to accept Romans 6:16-23?
    I.E. my signature below.

Paul clearly warns in Romans 6:16 that we must choose to be
slaves of sin leading to eternal death
    or
slaves of obedience leading to righteousness.

Paul clearly warns in Romans 6:19 that we must choose to be
slaves of righteous leading to holiness.

Perhaps you see that the righteousness, holiness, etc.
gained when you were born-again must be carried on.

The BA who chooses to still be a slave of sin
cannot also be a slave to anything else!

Shew! The only BAC’s I know are blood alcohol content. I am a lab tech and from time to time I have to draw blood for the area police officers.

Were God's chosen people in the old covenant atoned for?
If you agree they were ... do you understand that most of them
lost any salvation they might have had?
Paul even warns BACs that what happened to the OT folks
can happen to the church people to whom he was writing.

All the passages mentioned are true and faithful to the doctrine of forgiveness of sins.

None of the passages mentioned say ONLY past sins are forgiven.

Paul states, at various points, that a Christian has been saved, is being saved, and will be saved.

There are many passages that support the doctrine of security of the believer. Pastor Bob mentioned a few.

" Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." ( John 5:24 )

Those that believe, have everlasting life.
They shall not come into condemnation ( eternal punishment ).

    "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
    14 blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 [and] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."
    ( Colossians 2:13-14 )

" Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." ( Titus 2:14 )

" For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified." ( Hebrews 10:14 )

    All sins are forgiven.
All iniquity is redeemed by His blood.

His children are purified...not rinsed to become dirty again.

Do you know what imputed righteousness is, sir?

    Yes, but not eternally:

" And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.
5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the Lord.
6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put [it] in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.
7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.
8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled [it] on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words."
    ( Exodus 24:4-8 )

The blood of the Old Testament was of bulls and goats...it was a picture of the Atonement that would later come through Christ on the cross.

" And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin." ( Exodus 32:30 )

God's chosen, earthly people are the nation of Israel.
Moses made atonement for their earthly sins under a covenant of Law.

    No:

" For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
3 But in those [sacrifices there is] a remembrance again [made] of sins every year.
4 For [it is] not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."
    ( Hebrews 10:1-4 )

God's chosen, spiritual people are from every tongue, tribe and nation.
Christ made atonement for them by His own blood, which is far more precious than that of bulls and goats.

" Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."
    ( Romans 5:9 )

" In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;" ( Ephesians 1:7 )

Unlike the blood of the animals under the Old covenant, where each individual sin is covered...under the New, all sins, past, present and future are covered.

The New is a perfect covenant with a perfect sacrifice.

They were not eternally saved, for the most part, so there was no eternal life to be lost.

" For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it]." ( Hebrews 10:4 )

Moses was, Aaron was, Miriam was, and Joshua and Caleb were, among others.

Paul never told anyone that their gift of eternal life could be forfeited.
I do, however, know where you get your conclusions from.

The error is in treating spiritual Israel like earthly Israel, in that, when God blesses under the Law, it is in accord with obedience.
If He curses under the Law, it is in accord with disobedience.

Under the New Testament in Christ's blood, His people are blessed whether or not they obey, because God the Father looks upon them out of Christ's perfect obedience, not their own failing efforts... imputed righteousness without ( outside ) the Law, not their own righteousness under the Law.

He keeps them by His power ( 1 Peter 1:5 ), not their own.
They are beloved, and they are chastised if they do not obey, if only to remind them of what they are saved from....eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.
Yet, deep down ( under their filthy, sinful flesh ), they really want to obey, because they do so out of a changed nature...which was not present in the majority of the earthly nation of Israel.

They are two entirely different covenants...
Yet, the first is a picture of the second.

One is a covenant of Law with earthly consequences, and one is a covenant of grace with eternal consequences.

In both cases, God out-right chose His people through no effort of their own.

Instead of ignoring the verses in the OP
(which speak of past sins being cleansed),
you could choose to address them.
