A man lodged at the Minnehaha County jail was indicted on assault charges this week after jail staff said he assaulted another inmate with a mop handle.
On Oct. 11, 2018, a group of men in one of the male blocks of the jail were participating in a bible study, according to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant. An inmate not participating in the study was "walking around the block" when he picked up a dust mop and started walking toward the group...
Lonnie Lee Gstohl, 49, was indicted on two charges of aggravated assault this week
The victim...was given a medical assessment at the jail and didn't require further medical attention....The mop handle was not broken, and it was 'placed back into use,' according to the affidavit.
