Almost 70 percent of Americans OK with gay presidential candidate
WASHINGTON — With Pete Buttigieg's campaign saying he raised an impressive $7 million in the first fundraising quarter, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, is looking more and more like a significant factor in the 2020 Democratic primary.

The main knock on his candidacy may be his lack of statewide or federal elected experience (South Bend’s population is only about 102,000). But it’s also worth noting that one fact about him is rarely treated as a liability: Buttigieg is openly gay and has been married to his husband, Chasten, since last June.

On a day when @PeteButtigieg is getting lots of buzz, a look back at how Americans' views of gay candidates have changed in less than 15 years. Meet the Press Blog: Latest news, analysis and data driving the political discussion pic.twitter.com/vIaObqeGLP

— Carrie Dann (@CarrieNBCNews) April 1, 2019
As recently as 2006, when Buttigieg was 24, more than half of Americans said they would be “very uncomfortable” (34 percent) or have “reservations” (19 percent) about a gay or lesbian person running for president.

That year, just five percent said they’d be enthusiastic about an LGBT candidate, according to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. An additional 38 percent said they’d be “comfortable.”

These days? A majority of Americans say they’re just fine with a gay candidate.

A combined 68 percent are either enthusiastic (14 percent) or comfortable (54 percent) with a candidate who is gay or lesbian.

It appears his gayness is his #1 qualification. His sexuality is the focus...

I think that we can be sure that he will not be touching women and little girls inappropriately as Joe Biden does.

South Bend was declared a dying city a few years ago by the Wall Street Journal. Sitting south of Lake Michigan, the formerly industrialized city receives huge snowstorms such as Buffalo, New York, gets. Industry such as Studebaker Cars was long gone and people were moving out to find jobs elsewhere. Then Gary, Chicago, and Detroit got so bad that people moved to South Bend and the population started to grow again. We have the same thing happening here in Indianapolis. It is amazing the number of Chicagoans in Indiana and the number of people who have fled Gary, Indiana.

This homosexual mayor of South Bend could not even carry Indiana in an election. He really is glib but stupid.

But does a gay, white male have more intersectionality points that a straight, black female? That will be the deciding factor in the Democratic primary, intersectionality points.

You know, as a Republican I know that I should stay out of the Democrat primary process, but I have to laugh when I see their field: Hillary, who won't go away; Bernie, who thinks that we produce too many kinds of deodorant and so uses none himself; Warren, the blue-eyed aborigine who drinks firewater in her kitchen even though her husband doesn't drink with her; Biden, who is creepy; Robert, the Irish gringo from El Paso; Harris, who has the full endorsement of Willie Brown; and the reprobate mayor of South Bend, Indiana, a place to stay away from--and I know there are others. No wonder the Democrats can't get no respect.

Just so. They're unimpressive. Dems are the epitome of hypocrisy. Now if his wife were a decorated Jewish Muslim black Hispanic female transgender illegal alien veteran amputee abortionist… Of course, we haven’t seen the running “mates” yet… Unfortunately, Dems are not "merely" hypocritical, they are psychopathically so.

Very funny!

I guess that South Bend is a hot mess. There are about 100,000 people living there and the murder rate per capita is higher than Chicago. That is the same experience that we are having in Indianapolis. People are moving out of South Bend except for the rich and the very poor who are stuck there. Indianapolis is also experiencing major white flight and collapsing home values.

Frankly, I don't trust the poll. They didn't give any other figures or explanations that I could see other than that 70% number.

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

Child murder!?

Psalm 106
37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
38 And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

Do you think that it probably is one of those things where you can't tell the truth to the pollster so you just give the politically correct answer? Surprisingly, Indiana has a large homosexual population. The expensive condominiums and apartments of downtown Indianapolis are home to mostly homosexuals. Also, Bloomington, Indiana, where Indiana University is has a large homosexual population. South Bend, also a college town (Notre Dame) probably is very liberal as Notre Dame is very liberal. I have not been to South Bend for several decades. I would say that there has been a high crime rate there for half a century. It is not a good place to live because it receives deep snows from Lake Michigan--more snow than Chicago--and the population is declining in the long run but has been temporarily propped up by people moving out of Chicago and Gary.

Yeah, the poll is probably one of those "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" kind of deals.

South Bend sounds like it's going the way of Detroit--a hollowed out mess. Chicago may be even ahead of that. Milwaukee, just south of us, is a crime wave all by itself. It's headed the way of Detroit, too.

We have friends down in a small town in IL who say they are getting a lot of folk from Chicago, too, but mostly criminals and illegal aliens. Their town is going down fast. So South Bend had better beware of any gift of citizens from Windy City. :Cautious

If the man stood four square behind the Constitution of the United States I could vote for him, but since he is a Democrat such a thing is extremely unlikely.
