Today we honor all those brave people who gave their lives in defense of our nation and as we go through the day with our cookouts and our beachgoing, we need to remember them and what we continue to have because of them.

I have a particular interest in WW2 because of my Dad's service in it (the Pacific), so let us remember the men who died in places that not too many of us are familiar with.

I am thinking of the small islands in the Solomans, in particular places like Vangunu, Segi, Viru, and Rendova. Small out of the way places for sure, but men still paying the ultimate sacrifice in those putrid swamps and jungles. Men whose deaths were only known about by their close buddies and loved ones back home who received the dreaded telegram from the War Department that began: "We regret to inform you...….."

Again, thanks to all who gave their lives in all of our many military expeditions through the years. They are not forgotten!
