Angel, I believe your premise is wrong.

Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
The word "even" proves your premise is wrong.

Jesus is not saying that the Sabbath day ALONE is the LORD'S DAY but that ALL days are the LORD'S DAY including the Sabbath.

EVERYTHING is the LORDS, EVERYTHING. In terms of time - years, months, days, so in particular there is no text in the scripture that says "SUNDAY is the LORD'S DAY" but neither does it say that the SABBATH DAY ALONE is the LORD'S DAY.

Absolutely thankyou for being honest. So it is a man made tradition that is not biblical.

Hi HANK thanks for sharing your thoughts but this is why your post is not true. The premise is correct why?
Because MATTHEW 12:8 as well as MARK 2:27-28 show that JESUS is GOD and the CREATOR of HEAVEN and EARTH as witnessed by MOSES in GENESIS chapters 1 and 2. JESUS says that he is the LORD (CREATOR) even of the SABBATH DAY. It is the LORDS DAY because on the SABBATH DAY JESUS; Set the SEVENTH DAY of the week apart for mankind as a HOLY DAY. On the SEVENTH DAY of CREATION GOD (JESUS) BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY, and SET IT APART as a HOLY DAY for mankind (BEFORE THE FALL) to REST with GOD. *GENESIS 2:1-3. What these scriptures prove is that the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH is the LORDS DAY that he set apart for mankind and show he is the creator of HEAVEN and EARTH.
Now JOHN in REVELATION 1:10 knew that JESUS is the creator GOD and he refers to the SABBATH DAY as the LORD'S DAY *MATTHEW 12:8. These are God's WORD brother (not mine) and they disagree with you because there is no scripture that says SUNDAY is "THE LORDS DAY" but JESUS says he is the LORD (CREATOR) even of the SABBATH DAY *MATTHEW 12:8. JOHN in REVELATION 1:10 is referring to JESUS as the creator of heaven and earth.

May you receive Gods' Word and be blessed.

There ain't no SDA greeks are there? :Wink

If you ask what the first day of the week is.....its LORD's day.

Your theory was a Dumb Uneducated AMERICAN IDEA

Here's the thing buddy.. Greeks have no "sunday" its just called Lord's day.

Just like in SPANISH its called DOMINGO day of the LORD.

Your arguement could never start it has absolutely no foothold other then and IGNORANT SOLELY AMERICAN BUBBLE.

In a world where you think SUNDAY is the objectively GLOBAL official word for the first day of the week

"In Revelations 1:10 "Lords Day κυριακῇ ἡμέρᾳ does not link to any scripture reference in the NEW TESTAMENT to μιά των σαββάτων (the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK)."

Sabbath was made for MAN. = Sabbath is Man's day. Its taken.

The sweet part is the title "LORD's DAY" isn't some holy phonetic formula.

Like the saying goes A ROSE By any other name is still a ROSE. Jesus Christ rose on the 1st day of the week. Thats the Lord's day.

Thanks Angel but we disagree - there is no reason to add to the text of Matthew 12:8 and force it say that the LORD'S day ALONE is the SABBATH DAY. Nor does conflating it with Revelation 1:10 add to it that nuance.
There is no reason apart from your own hermeneutic to conflate Matthew 12:8 with Revelation 1:10.

There is no place in the scripture that says in particular the Sabbath alone is the LORDS DAY.

In your opinion, yes, you may do that and present your thesis which you have done but I AM NOT CONVINCED.

Everything is the LORDS including TIME. Every measure of time, every moment is His and we are all His even if we are among "the wicked" for the purpose of ANOTHER DAY - The Day of Evil.

Proverbs 16:4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Jesus is LORD even of the Day of Evil as well as the Sabbath.

Paul states that now under the NC, we are free in Christ to observe or not observe any day as special unto the Lord, correct?

    Colossians 2;16
So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,

3rdAngel, this verse does NOT specify "High Sabbaths", as you said in so many words. It just says "Sabbaths".

And a "High Sabbath", that is, any special observance day of the Jews, followed the same rules as the regular weekly Sabbath, along with the special rules for the occasion. It could fall on the regular Sabbath, with no rules changes.

Paul is saying Sabbath-observation is according to the dictates of each individual believer's conscience. And that applies to US as well. Same goes for eating or not eating certain foods, hair length, head-covering or no pants for women, & umpteen other rules from the "Mosaic" law. I consider myself free from that law, under Jesus, & I don't observe any part of it except those things which are always sinful, such as murder, stealing, sexual sin, etc.

I'm afraid if I introduce the Christian concept of the eighth day into this discussion, some folks may burst a blood vessel.

There are two days, both of which are called the Lord's day. The first case is the LORD's day the 7th day of the week. The second one is the first day of the week on which our Lord Jesus rose bodily from the dead.

The issue is which day does Revelation 1:10, ". . . I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, . . ." refer?

Ok. But could have given the Biblical reasons that it would be Sunday and not the Hebrew Sabbath. Revelation 1:10 is left to interpretation.

    Leviticus 23:
1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

This chapter discusses the feast days of the Lord. He identify the weekly sabbath as one of these. He describes it as "an holy convocation". The difference between the weekly sabbaths and the other holy convocations is one of focus. Passover focuses on the Grace of God to Israel during the Exodus etc.

    Have you read Galatians?

Mr 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
Mr 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

    Sure there is.

Then you should be able to show me the scriptures that say SUNDAY or the FIRST DAY μία των is the "LORDS DAY"? You cannot can you.

The FIRST DAY μία των is used in reference to our SUNDAY in the Kione Greek of the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures and NO! there is not scripture that says "SUNDAY" (first day of the week μία των) is "THE LORDS DAY"

The GREEK word Κυριακή is not a reference to the 1st day of the week. The term "LORDS DAY" used in Revelation 1:10 is not linked to μία των which is used in the NEW TESTAMENT Kione Greek which means FIRST DAY.

In Revelations 1:10 "Lords Day κυριακῇ ἡμέρᾳ does not link to any scripture reference in the NEW TESTAMENT to μιά των σαββάτων (the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK).

κυριακῇ ἡμέρᾳ used in Revelations 1:10 is in reference to the Lord's ownership of the day. It does not say that this day is in reference to μιά των σαββάτων which means the FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK.

Your challenge here in this OP is to prove that the Lord's DAY is in reference to the First day of the week and prove it from the scriptures.

    Hope this is helpful.

    NO μία
των = No Sunday (First day of the week)

Hi Hank, some comments for you below.

No one has added to the text you are simply ignoring what the text says. The scripture in MATTHEW 12:8 read by itself does not need any explanation and answers the question asked perfectly and defines what day is "THE LORDS DAY" Let's see if this is true?

WHAT DAY IS THE LORDS DAY?

    Answer: wait for it...

FOR THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY (Matthew 12:8).

God does not need our help and ignoring God's Word does not make it dissappear.

If you disagree please show me the scripture that says "SUNDAY" (or the first day of the week) is "THE LORDS DAY" You cannot can you. Yet it is God's Word alone that says the SABBATH DAY is "THE LORDS DAY".

    Hope this helps.

WRONG! Please provide the scripture that says SUNDAY (or the first day of the week) is "THE LORDS DAY". God's WORD alone says that JESUS is LORD of the SABBATH DAY *MATTHEW 12:8 not SUNDAY or the first day of the week.

Hi brother numbers nice to see you again. The only trouble here brother is that there is no scripture support for this view that "SUNDAY" is "THE LORDS DAY" it is simply a man made teaching and tradition that has no basis in scripture.

Nope! In the days of JESUS and the Apostles their bible was the OLD TESTAMENT scirptures. Everything we have from the NEW TESTAMENT scriptures comes from the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures. Together these are the two great witnesses that make up "THE WORD OF GOD" that bear witness to JESUS and God's plan of salvation for mankind. These are "THE WORD OF GOD" and we are to live by "EVERY WORD" of them *MATTHEW 4:4. You are confused not understanding the scriptures.

WRONG! Paul states nowhere that we are free to break God's commandments which includes God's 4th commandment which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4. PAUL teaches that God's LAW is establsihed through faith not done away by faith *ROMANS 3:31; ROMANS 13:8-10; HEBREWS 8:10-12.

Hi brother Tom nice to meet you. I will be providing a detailed scripture response to Robycop shortly. I would suggest you read and consider it.

    The CONTEXT of LEVITICUS 23 here are the appointed times of the ANNUAL FESTIVALS. These ANNUAL FESTIVALS are once a year events and includes days of HOLY CONVOCATION. A HOLY CONVOCATION in Hebrew means;

HOLY קדשׁ ; qôdesh From H6942; a sacred place or thing; rarely abstractly sanctity: - consecrated (thing), dedicated (thing), hallowed (thing), holiness, (X most) holy (X day, portion, thing), saint, sanctuary.

CONVOCATION מקרא; miqrâ'; From H7121; something called out, that is, a public meeting (the act, the persons, or the palce); also a rehearsal: - assembly, calling, convocation, reading.

So CONTEXT of LEVITICUS 23 is lising all the days of HOLY CONVOCATION for the ANNUAL FEASTIVALS. That are SACRED PUBLIC MEETINGS for the YEARLY FEAST DAYS.

God's 4th Commandments is a part of the ANNUAL FEAST days because many FEASTS were longer then 7 days or the FEASTS could start on any day depending on the YEARLY CYCLE.

This is different to the "special annual sabbath" that are connected directly to the feast days that could fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle. So we are not discussing the same thing here.

God's 4th Commandment which is one of God's 10 commandment that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *ROMANS 3:20. God's 4th commandment is not one of the "special" annual sabbaths strictly linked to the feastivals like those listed in LEVITICUS 23

These "special" sabbaths linked directly to certain festivals can fall on any day of the week and are only used in the annual Jewish festivals of Feasts of Trumpets (Lev 23:24) or Day of Atonement (Lev 23:32 or Feast of Booths (Lev 23:39) unlike God's 4th commandment SABBATH which is striclty every SEVENTH DAY of the week required outside of the feasts.

    Hope this is helpful
