I was brought up GARBC Baptist and was discipled from my earliest recollections not only to end my prayers in Jesus name but in, "Jesus Precious Name." I have prayed that way ever since and is my delight to hear others pray that way as well, admitting that the "precious" reference is not required. It is annoying for me, though, to hear others pray and omit the name of Jesus all together, or to hear someone pray, "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost."

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. - John 14

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.- John 15:16

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. - Act 3:6-7

Why go to any other when we got direct access to the Father in the name of Jesus! In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk! And to hear RW Schambach preach on the name of Jesus so well!

RW Shambach was among the biggest heretics and false teachers of the 20th century. Hope he repented before he died.

Sounds like "in Jesus' name" has become a fetish to you.

And I must say that praying in my methods do not guarantee any kind of instant results. I do like, though, in my preference, to hear Jesus name mentioned in a prayer.

What do you believe it means to pray (or ask) in Jesus' name?

Just because some get it wrong doesn't empty it of the power of God.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Jesus' name isn't a magic mantra. Prayers aren't any more efficacious because we say "in Jesus' name". We can't "bind" spirits "in Jesus' name". People, and particularly people who follow nuts like Shambach, use it like a fetish.

Wonderful verse, but not what we're talking about here.

i did and you are wrong. by innuendo you accused me of saying that i use Jesus name as a magic mantra, i do not and nowhere in Acts 4:12 is it implied which is exactly the point.
Also you insinuated that i use Jesus name as a "fetish" I do not.
by innuendo you accused me of saying that i use Jesus name as a magic mantra
No, I didn't. But if that's what you got out of my post, then that sounds like a Freudian thing to me.

Is your name Rockytopva?

OK Hollow Man i see you haven't been here that long so i owe you an apology.
my wrong assumption is that you are aware that some of us expect a kind of "healthy debate". My bad.
i thought you had been here for a while and knew me,

what i was looking for was an explanation based upon the meaning of the word "name" in Acts 4:12

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

That the "name" in Acts 4:12 is more than the repetition of Jesus name but speaks of His authority as the Son of God as in:

Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Then, I thought you knew me well enough to know I couldn't agree with Shambach and his overreacting.

I'm sorry. Thanks for being cool.

I have known "modalists" who use the adjective "precious" when referring to Jesus name. Not sure if there is a definite connection. Probably not.

Because the OP brought it up.

I haven't accused you of anything. You seem to see accusations where there are none. Maybe your conscience is trying to tell you something.

So, if you're not rockytopva, then why are you pretending something said to him was said to you?

You want to debate? Fine. I'll debate you.

But given that you don't even know whether you're Hank D or rockytopva, my guess is that it won't be much of a debate.

I mean, I quoted him. I responded to him. His words are in the quote boxes with his name above them. And yet, you insist I was talking to you. You don't strike me as the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Based on your posts, I'm not sure I care to.

And yet, when I said something about Shambach's followers, you said I was talking about you.

No problem. Thanks for the ad homs.

That "fetish" accusation is just sick, and sad. Deserves an apology.

The Precious Name • Jarvis Street Baptist Church, Toronto (PDF)

"'How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary rest.' —John Newton.
Born again believers love the Name"

"The one and only theme of the message of Jarvis Street Baptist Church for one hundred and thirty-eight years, has been 'Jesus', affirming constantly with the Apostle Peter, 'Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved' (Acts 4:12).... 'Unto you therefore which believe he is precious' (1 Pet. 2:7)."

"the precious name of Jesus is worthy of our praise,
Let us bow our knee before Him, our hands to heaven raise;
When He comes in clouds of glory, with Him to ever reign,
Let's lift our happy voices, and praise His dear name.
Let's just praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let's just lift our hands to heaven and praise the Lord!"
