I think the SBC churches can keep the Convention in check (either by their voice or by their feet). While I like Mohler the SBC may do better selecting a less diversive a candidate.
The reason, @davidtaylorjr , that this goes back to Calvinism is the SBC has seen divisiveness centered around the philosophy. It was not long ago David Platt disavowed being a Calvinist in being considered to lead the IMB.
Think about that. David Platt was known to have a heart for missions and to be a gifted leader but some were hesitant because they thought he affirmed Calvinism.
On one hand you have some people discriminating against others for being Calvinists and on the other you have some Calvinists earning the reputation of damaging churches.
