I just want to know your opinions on the teaching that the earth is thousands of years old as the bible says, and that there is apparent age to the universe as made by God.

I hold to apparent age and was a little surprised by how theistic evolutionists hate it as an attack on the "scientific enterprise." I was more shocked at how some more biblical Brethren hate it just as much. I either get acceptance as one type of young earth Creationism or full on arguments.

well - Jesus made wine one day and that is the point. Normally it takes a lot more than one day to make "the best"
    wine. Like several months.

The older I get the less I care about apparent age but the more I feel it. It was oppsite when I was younger.

Not much question that the universe is BILLIONS of years old. God has allowed us to find the speed of light, radio waves, etc. and to be able to roughly measure the distance from earth to the stars.

The farthest-away thing we can see with the unaided eye is the Andromeda Galaxy, which is so far it takes its light over a million years to reach us. So we know it's at least over a million years old.

Science has not been able to find any natural force or object which moves faster than light.

Now, people often overlook the first verses of Genesis. remember, it says the Spirit of God moved over "THE FACE OFTHE DEEP". The Hebrew word here is "tehowm" refers to deep water thruout the O.T. Thus, there was water with a surface & a bottom when God began creating the present arrangement.

And Genesis goes on to say God gathered the waters into one place & dry land appeared, so it was apparent God was working on an already-existing planet.

And it's a FACT that 99.9 % of ALL species of fauna & flora that ever existed are now extinct, according to fossil records. But Scripture says Noah brought at least one pair of EVERY animal species aboard the ark. Thus, dinosaurs, etc. were already extinct.

Now I'm not trying to disprove Scripture; I'm showing that Scripture & science go together, & that several man-made notions are incorrect, especially the one that earth is only 6K years old.

Of course there was apparent age... Do they, who actually believe in Adam and Eve, believe the first humans were crawling around the earth as babies upon creation?

In apologetics, two "apparent" concepts currently stand out—apparent age and apparent design. Proponents of the first would have us believe that the age of the universe we perceive is not even close to its actual age. Proponents of the second would have us believe that the design we see in nature is the result of unconscious, unguided forces.

Because the second is the real biblical issue, conceding the first should be easy enough for apologetics purposes. "Yes, the universe is apparently billions of years old." This does not mean it is, but it does look like it to the point that scientists cannot tell otherwise. For a thousands of years old conclusion, one would have to accept the Bible as God's word and adopt a matching interpretation—not a typical starting place for an unbeliever.

On the other hand, apparent design is scientifically unsupportable and its case continually worsens. By all scientific standards, including so-called "Big Bang" theory, creation had a beginning and is designed to such a degree that only a being of unimaginable genius and power could have achieved it. Those arguing for apparent design eventually have to appeal to their own "god of the gaps" metaphysics that will cause an honest person to reconsider.

Depends on which Earth you are speaking of. Adam's Earth was made on the 3rd Day Genesis 1:9-10 and was totally destroyed in the flood 11,000 years ago. 2 Peter 3:6 The present Earth was made at the end of the 3rd Day and will be burned. 2 Peter 3:10 The 3rd Heaven and the 3rd Earth were also made on the 3rd Day Genesis 2:4 and will be forever. Revelation 21:1

The Bible does NOT say that the present Earth was made thousands of years ago but shows that it was made when Jesus changed some of the air, dust and water, which God made in the beginning Genesis 1:1, back into Energy, which cooled and produced our Earth 13.8 Billion years ago. That's God's Truth.

Not much question that the earth is young.

The universe appears to be hundreds of billions of years old, so why do so many Atheists claim it's only about 14 billion years old? The Earth appears to be only thousands of years old, so why do so many Atheists claim it's about 5 billion years old? It all depends on what evidence you're looking at, and what assumptions you've made.

I remember being involved in a debate which went on for several days concerning the size of the Singularity just before the Big Bang - the size of a garden pea vs a watermelon - the pea won.

Not if you ignore the discoveries of Science, History, Genetics, Math and Scripture. I seriously doubt that you know what Day we live in today. Remember that God has only 7 Days or Ages in the Creation.

Amen. God's Creation began less than 6 Days/Ages ago. Want irrefutable Scripture?

What matters is not the size but Who caused it. According to Scripture, it was Jesus. Can you tell us which Day our Universe was made?

Even if it started the size of a pea, current Big Bang theory says within an inconceivably small fraction of a second, the universe was tens of billions of light years in width. Cursorily, most people who believe in the Big Bang don't know much about it and have no interest in questioning the absurdities of it.

Thanks for telling us that you have no idea what Day it is according to Scripture.

Whose version of "Big Bang" Theory says "the universe was tens of billions of light years" across in its earliest moments? None that I know of. It sounds like derogation.
