Deindustrialization Isn’t (Just) a White Working-Class Problem

“Manufacturing has historically provided good jobs for workers without higher education. In the early 20th century, for instance, manufacturing work helped lift less educated Irish and Italian immigrants into the middle class. The same was beginning to be true for African Americans following the civil rights movement. Black high school graduation rates were finally converging with whites by the early 1970. Yet tragically, the 1970s also marked the peak of U.S. manufacturing employment and the end of socio-economic convergence between blacks and whites.”

Trump got it. Indiana is very much rust belt. Indianapolis has thousands of low-paying warehouse jobs and not many factory jobs. Trump helped Indiana by tax cuts and defense build up. I got a nice raise. Obama never lifted a finger for the rust belt and we had 8 bad years economically under him. The Dems are globalists. The Libertarians do not care about the opoid crisis in the rust belt. Nor are the Libertarians interested in paying workers better.

You think that we should not worry about drugs and prostitution

I think we should be concerned about all that and adultery and fornication and sexual immorality and gluttony, etc. Now, for example, do I want the government making fornication a crime? No!
