While reading various news sources, I got the impression there is a growing discontent, not only in the U.S. but around the world concerning the general direction countries are headed.

It didn’t matter the country, nor the style of leadership, nor even the economics.

    This is highly unusual!

In the past, a few key ingredients were found in discontent. Economy, safety, religion, were typically the three legs one could investigate to discern the reason for discontent.

This is no longer the case. Discontent seems to not have a clearly defined focus.

However, I have noticed a number of countries looking for a single charismatic leader to bring them out of the deepening malaise and bring renewal to them.

Some leader who exudes both power, charisma, focusing energies, resolving issues, building trust, and is cunning in all matters.

Someone who is untainted by sensual scandal, is unimpressed by bribery offers, who exudes confidence.

Someone who will pick up the pieces, bring unity, peace and prosperity to all.

Seems like the countries of the world are getting ready for the anti-Christ.

I do not see an anti-Christ quotient to this at all. The things you mentioned have been cyclical throughout history. I can cite recent history. What were the 1970's like in the World and especially the United States? Vietnam, the Soviet threat, economic malaise, the energy crisis, Watergate, the Iran Hostage crisis, Jimmy Carter et. al. By the time the late 70's approached the American people were looking for just the type of leader you mentioned and it resulted in the election of Ronald Reagan. If you go back to the Weimar Republic in pre-World War II Germany, they were looking for the same type of leader to deliver them from their troubles. They got Adolf Hitler. To be fair, I am an Amillennialist and do not believe there is going to be a literal anti-Christ, so I cannot divorce my theology from my worldview.

I understand. World view of last days can modify one's consideration.

But world view aside, there is a difference - seemingly a world wide, cross cultural, and deep discontent.

Yes there was the seventies and the Europe of the twenties and thirties that gave people Hilter, the annexing of the Hawaii and take over of the Philipeans which irritated the Japanese.

These were all grounded in basic causes, though.

    Now, it seems different.

There isn't an economic factor - typically the world economy is rather good in comparison to the last century. Even the "disadvantaged countries" are improving. Sickness is still a factor. Health risks due to hygiene still problematic.

There isn't a "civil rights" problem as was in the mid 1900's in both the US and Europe. That which is in Asia is basically limited to Hong Kong areas, and little elsewhere.

There isn't much in the manner of political upheaval. Sure there is tension with Trump, but he likes tension. Europe is, well, Europe. There will always be some local issues. Asia, Africa, and Australia do not a lot of turmoil in comparison to the last 50 years or so. Even the middle east, though it has its moments, has been fairly quiet in comparison.

    So, what is different?

The great unease within of the sea of humanity, despite the continued "history," there seems a general and growing sense of despondency throughout the world, and what is (imo) alarming, the growing sense of looking for a singular presence of someone to charm them. A sense that the "loss of footing" needs someone to look to for encouragement and support.

We have seen it in churches the last two decades. We saw it in the popular culture in the same period. But now the sense has united into a single desire for a single world renown person to whom everyone can raise into a worshipful figure.

Maybe it is that the underground church, the persecuted church is thriving, and the rest of the churches in the world are looking for emotional high sensual driven services for sustaining.

Take a humility pill. This time is not any more special than the times before it. Jesus may come again tomorrow or he may come in a thousand years. We should be prepared for both.

    Did I mention Jesus's returning?

    Rather, I think I mentioned an anti-Christ?

Why would you think that I am presenting something "puffed up?"
