German Chancellor Angela Merkel addressed the Bundestag recently to warn the German parliament about the dangers of free speech.

“We have freedom of expression in our country,” Merkel argued. “For all those who claim that they can no longer express their opinion, I say to them: If you express a pronounced opinion, you must live with the fact that you will be contradicted. Expressing an opinion does not come at zero cost.”

In 2018, Germany enacted a strict ban on certain speech that elites of the day consider “hateful.” Under the new law, sites can be fined up to 50 million euros, around $55 million, for not promptly removing so-called “hate speech” from their platform.

“But freedom of expression has its limits,” Merkel warned. “Those limits begin where hatred is spread. They begin where the dignity of other people is violated. This house will and must oppose extreme speech. Otherwise, our society will no longer be the free society that it was.”

Merkel Gives Speech Attacking Free Speech

I don't want to be too critical of Merkel because she has led in increasing German prosperity. The European Union has not been successful. All of those Muslims should not have been allowed into Europe, which cannot afford the long-term welfare burden. Germany has allowed their small military capabilities to decay to almost nothing while Russia has been conducting huge exercises and bragging of new high tech weapons. Most of all, Germany needs to return to Christianity and forget hedonism. If Germany would assume more responsibility, the USA could withdraw our troops from Germany and bring to an end World War II vestiges. Germany has good classical music, nice scenery, good food, and a good work ethic. They don't need to depend on us anymore.

Evidently she has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

    Ironic.

Fuhrer Merkel you mean. The EU is the 4th Reich and Merkel is the fuhrer. If the traitors who want to cancel the Peoples Vote to Leave, we will in time have to be part of a European Army, that will be a German army. We will also have to join the Euro, which means our currency reserves will be transferred to the European Central Bank, in Germany, just as under Hitler the nations he ruled had all their reserves moved to Berlin.

Russia lost millions of their people in the war and are terrified of a resurgent Germany, and a European army is more likely to cause war with Russia than not.

Yes, we have no need to have substantial force levels in Germany, Korea, Japan, and wherever their purpose is to assure mutual defense because of spilled American blood.

Why should Russia fear Germany? Germany would not stand a chance against Russia. Europe wants the USA to pay for their defense. Europeans are cheap.

Macron said Nato is Brain Dead. Upset Donald Trump who is over here today. Russia suffered more than 20,000,000 dead in the war with Germany. If Germany gets a European army, just at it did during the war, all the European Union Nations will be under German control, just as they were under Hitler.
Russia says the when the SU ended, Nato promised that they would not move to the Russian Border, but they broke their promise.

Yeah, NATO is dead and should be buried. Turkey went bad for one thing. Too bad they just built a new NATO HQ. The USA needs to withdraw troops from Europe before the storm hits again.

I agree with you that Germany rules the continent but it is with money not military power. Russia just conducted a massive exercise in Siberia with some 300,000 men. The Russian army still functions and Putin wants Moscow to be the third Rome. Of course, Putin wants the old Stalinist borders back. Germany probably doesn't have a tank that is in operating order. You heard Merkel saying that Germans should not have free speech. One way to weaken Germany is to pull US troops out because then Putin will put immense pressure on Poland and Germany.

Do you think that the UK will ever get out of the EU? I don't think that South Korea wants our troops there anymore. We need to allow Japan to rearm. We are broke and we cannot contain China, Russia, and the Islamic states by ourselves. People like MacArthur thought that the defeat of Japan would bring about a lasting peace. It did not and could not.

I am listening to Ton Koopman play Bach's ''Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme'' on the organ so I just hope Trump comes home soon.

I hope so, but it depends on who wins the election. The Liberal Democrats say they will cancel Brexit if they win , despite the fact that they agreed to honour the referendum. The Labour are promising all manner of giveways, such as doing away with university fees, nationalising the railways, water companies, giving free broadband for all, cutting rail fares by a third, giving free thravel for under 16's. I can't remember what else but there was more, Pure fantasy. The thing is many young voters will taken in by this. No wonder they wanted to reduce the voting age to 16.

Labour say they will renegotiate the deal with the EU, but will then hold a referendum andwill probably ask people to vote against the deal. What sort of bargaining Power is that?

The left wants to steal everything everywhere. The Pope is in open alliance with Soros and the commie Sanders.

All my life I advocated normalizing everything with Germany and many Germans here are very nice. But I think that Germany itself is a perpetual problem since they are still socialistic at heart and want to ruin Europe. Trump needs to give up on Germany and Brussels.

This is just, well, silly. Merkel is no Fuhrer. She is, in fact, on the way out. The Germans have no interest in militarism because there's no money in it.

The Germans don't need the pittance that the pound sterling would provide, for goodness sake. Germany is the only economic engine in Europe and is in fact subsidizing the rest of the EU.

Russia is not terrified of a resurgent Germany because Germany doesn't want to be resurgent. It wants to make money and enjoy life. Empire didn't pay for the Germans like it did the Brits.

And the folks who think Brexit is a stupid idea aren't traitors. In fact, adopting Brexit will mean the dismemberment of the United Kingdom. Scotland will insist upon independence and Ulster will find it will benefit more from a union with Eire than with being a useless appendage to England. In the end, England and Wales (reluctantly) will be all that's left of the United Kingdom and Little England will once again be what it was in the 15th century — an afterthought in Europe.

You don't know Merkel's mysterious past. Scotland is on the dole from England. At any rate the people voted to leave. Trump should hurry home.

No, our ground forces would be wiped out. They are there to provide assurance to the foreign host government that we would fulfill our mutual defense commitment. In the modern world, there is no need for those ground forces, they are cannon fodder.

You don't keep up with the news. Both Merkel and Macron are pushing for a European army to defend against Russia. In the near future, I can't remember the year, maybe 2022 or 2025, qualified veto in the EU will be abolished and Merkel or her successor and Macron or his successor will be able to push that through.

He has left already. His wife made quite a hit with school children when she turned up at the school and aided them with christmas gifts for the Salvation Army to distribute to deprived children.

Henry the Great (VIII) took us out of Europe in the hardest of all exits, and against all the odds it was the beginning of our greatest pderiod. Our courts and laws were subjected to Rome. Our laws at present are subject to Rome's puppets in the EU. Remember that the treaty that setup the European Economic Communitee, the forerunner of the EU, was the treaty of Rome.

The Tories and Boris have an eighteen point lead in the polls, and the election is on the twelfth of the month, so it'll take something big to turn it into a Labor win. Boris wisely skipped the debate, the Prince Andrew scandal, the possible retirement of the queen may also factor in, in addition to brexit. Just leave already.

The Queen will never retire (abdicate). She will die with her boots on. The Queen will not give in.

Her mother QEQM when asked during the war if she would send her daughters to safety in Canada, The QM said "The princesses will only leave when I leave, I will only leave when my husband leaves, and the King will never leave."
The Queen has the same outlook. Prince Charles and Mrs Parker Bowles are another matter.
