Smoking rules - Gone too Far???

Sounds like a good rule to me.

 

The free market will determine if their rule is good or bad.

 

I assume the rule only applies to tobacco????

 

The non-smoking people quieted down when marijuana started to be legalized although many doctors say that any type of smoking is bad for you.

In hospitals around here, you are not allowed to smoke in the buildings or any of the grounds, including the car parks.

 

I don't use tobacco at all, but I believe users have rights, too, & I try to respect them. And smokers should observe etiquette in places where smoking is not regulated. For example, one shouldn't smoke in closed rooms with others present, in elevator cars, or other occupied confined spaces. But I see nothing wrong with smoking in open places, long as the butts are properly disposed of.

Chewing or dipping? Most of the probs from that come from spitting. Again, etiquette should prevail. Don't spit where people hafta walk thru it. Don't set spit cups where they'll easily become tipped over, on a floor, sidewalk, etc. be careful spitting from a moving vehicle when going slow enough to not have it blown back in the spitter's face. Don't spit in places where one wouldn't otherwise spit if not using tobacco.

Once, while riding a MC, a passenger in a car going the opposite direction hookshotted a spit cup into my path, & I barely ducked it. The dude wasn't looking at me at all & I'm sure he had no malice toward me, but he was still a litterbug, of course.

Such misuses & breaches of common etiquette is what brings about restrictive regulations on tobacco use. But I believe non-users should respect users' rights as well.

 

Hey, I just found out that you probably eat more ketchup than I do! Amazing! (We probably have the same rule for hospitals. You can't smoke in office buildings in Indianapolis.)

 

I had a conversation which included Ketchup, or Catsup on another board yesterday. I always thought Ketchup came from India, but looked on WiKi but it seems it started in China, but it wasn't tomato.

 

In Britain it is against the law to smoke in any building where people are employed. Also trains, buses, etc.

 

Well, if that is the rule of the property people should respect it or face the consequences. NOW, as far as whether it is right? Not sure.

 

Same here. Actually Indiana has some tobacco farming along the Ohio River in Madison. The government concern extended only to raising taxes. I never smoked much & that was a half century ago. There is no outcry about smoking marijuana as a health issue. How is it that the UK likes catsup so much?

Did the federal government just raise the age of purchasing tobacco to 21?

How can you be old enough to carry a gun in the military & vote in an election but not old enough to smoke?

This issue of lowering the age of adulthood goes back to the 1960s. The decision was made to abandon 21 in favor of 18. It is too late now. It is all or nothing. In Vermont some Democrat does not want anyone under 21 to own a cell phone.

These endless debates show the nutty side of Americans. An adult should be able to do anything legal including smoking, voting, owning a cell phone, & probably drinking. The system is illogical.
