Where did the virus come from? A wet market? Or a Laboratory?

Probably not a wet market, Tucker reports:

Tucker Carlson Airs Report Claiming Coronavirus ‘Probably Originated From A Laboratory In Wuhan’

Tucker Carlson aired a report Tuesday claiming that the novel coronavirus most likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

Despite previous reports that coronavirus had been traced to bats, most likely the kind that could be found in wet markets like the one in Wuhan, a new report from Botao Xiao and Lei Xiao of the South China University of Technology suggests that there’s a more likely scenario — a leak from a lab.

    ........

The report detailed the tracing of COVID-19 to the intermediate horseshoe bat — a bat that they confirmed was not available at the Wuhan wet market and did not live locally. In fact, the report noted that native populations were no closer than 600 miles away from the first known cases, making a natural transmission from bat to human appear more unlikely.

The only place those particular bats existed locally was inside a research facility — which was just several hundred yards from the Wuhan wet market — and the paper’s ultimate conclusion was that the coronavirus pandemic had likely been the result of a leak from the lab: “The killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan.”

the wet market where this supposedly occurred used to be right across the street from the lab on google maps, but now it's much further away for some reason.

Good thread, and I've long wondered if this bat is getting a bad rap since another corona variant caused SARS, and it was traced right to a bat. Guess they could've killed it several hundred miles away, and drove it there to sell and the Chinese commie government tried to say the US soldiers brought it to Hunan, as if.

No, I think it came right out of the lab. I know some cats and dogs had SARS, but supposedly that and covid-19 can't be transmitted from animal to human, so why would eating an infected bat make you sick at all?

It is Chinese biological warfare. More Chinese attacks to follow.

I think it was a weapon, but they did not intend for it to escape yet. I dont think they would have intentionally turned it loose without them having a vaccine.

Interesting. I never thought of that exactly. I have been thinking that the Chinese communist party did not care how many died. I think that the communists want to end globalization to reassert control over their domestic population in order to pursue their military expansion unopposed at home.

I know you guys aren’t really interested in actual scientific data, especially if it doesn’t support your conspiracy theories, but this nature published study looked at the genetics of covid 19 and compared it with known viruses in the lab (SARS and MERS) and sequences that would have been generated if it were manipulated by the known genetic tools we have. They found covid 19 to be unlikely to have been a human developed virus and much more likely to have an animal source.

Why do you insult us--is it because we say no one knows the exact death rate? We think the Chinese weaponized something they got from bats and let it loose on purpose. We know it is a war and we are through with China--it's Nixon's folly not ours. We helped China during WW II but the communists took over and fought us in Korea. China destroyed Tibet and is militarily expansionistic. Life is cheap in the orient.

This is hitting us very hard economically. The next time we will not be able to respond much. An acquaintance of mine who is an archaeologist says that his career is in ruins.

If you are interested in discussing scientific data that refutes your conspiracy theories, then I apologize.

Always trolling. Sad. Wish he could just have a normal adult conversation.

Then again, he gets defensive over China.

No need to apologize. Just take things with a grain of salt. Our government is not that good anymore. Look at how many unborn babies the government aborts. Uncle Sam is too big for his britches.

I have no love for China. My grandparents were persecuted in the cultural revolution and had everything taken away from them. What I get defensive about is false information and conspiracy theories based on no evidence trying to distract us from the real problems of fighting this virus which the Chinese government are responsible for unleashing on the world because of their lack of regulation of these wet markets and trying to hide the initial outbreak from the world.

The nature study is from the US.

I saw some of those wet markets on the news, just gross. The cats and dogs for sale for dinner are even worse, ugh.

Ya, they make a very compelling argument that covid-19 wasn't created in a lab but not everybody is ruling out a lab accident like they do:

Experts know the new coronavirus is not a bioweapon. They disagree on whether it could have leaked from a research lab - Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists

what I had heard was that someone sold an infected bat from the lab to the wet market so here we are.

I just had a read of the chinese "paper" that all these rumours are based on. It reads nothing like a scientific paper and had no actual data reported, no methods, no actual findings. It reads like a conspiracy theory rumour blog. It is not surprising that this "paper" is not taken seriously by the scientific community or reputable news sources, but is posted over and over again on conspiracy theory websites and considered a reputable source by Tucker Carlson.

I am sure they do, but I dont think they are fool hearty enough to do it without them having the "stop button" in case it gets too bad.

I have no problems blaming China for things they actually did to cause this pandemic.

This video highlights how these wet markets and China's poor regulation of them caused this virus. And this is after it was already known that they caused SARS the same way. Yet they reversed the regulations that would have prevented the next outbreak because of ironically .... capitalism. Before you ask, I am a product of the capitalist american dream and have no problem saying that communist economics are up there with some of the worst ideas in history.

This TED talk from the CEO of the HK paper South China Morning Post (who is an American) outlines a lot of the early deceptions and mistakes of China in this epidemic but also highlights some of their successes at containing coronavirus once they did admit to the world they had a problem. He also describes how some of the reactions among the Chinese populace wanting more freedom of speech and information since this pandemic has forced changes in positions for the ruling class in China.

Maybe they have a stop button and don't consider it too bad yet. No one knows how many Mao murdered for sure. We have a better idea how many Stalin murdered because there are some sketchy records here and there. I think that they take the census records in Russia and from the birth records they know how many were added so subtracting the newborns and using whatever death records there may be, they can calculate the shrinking population. American Stephen Kotkin is the world expert on Stalin and this is what he said in a lecture once on YouTube. Also, Solzhenitsyn had good information in the Gulag Archipelago books.
