    "The nexus of bad science and self-absorbed and irresponsible governors who insist on laying claim to a maximum number of resources for what can only be deemed political reasons (and alternative explanation, of course, is that they are in a state of panic) is not merely a harmless spectacle. Businesses are being bankrupted. People will be made homeless. Life savings will be exhausted. Medical personnel who could be treating trauma cases in the rural South are on a ship in New York harbor studiously keeping 6-feet from their colleagues."

    So Far the Navy Hospital Ships Have Treated 18 Patients and the People Who Caused This Frenzy Must Be Held Accountable

    I am all for maintaining social distancing and being extra careful, especially the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. However, destroying the U.S. economy will put tens of millions of Americans at risk of starvation and being more susceptible to a whole host of diseases due to weakened immune systems due to lack of nutrition, and if society totally breaks downs think what would happen to sanitation, trash, city water supplies, etc.

    By May 1 we must start to reopen the economy. I don't think there will be any alternative, as to keep the economy shut down could do far more damage than this virus itself. We can always maintain special measures for hot spots(which will mainly be metropolitan areas with their high population densities) and for the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

    We accept as an acceptable risk in an average year roughly 100,000 Americans per day catching the flu over the course of a calendar year and roughly 100 Americans per day dying from the flu. We will have to decide what the acceptable numbers are COVID-19. There are risks in life and we deal with them and work around them in order to have modern civilization which has brought health and wealth to so many people compared to the past. We will have to do the same with COVID-19.

    It seems a great waste. Taiwan has the 95 masks for all of their people because they have 25 or 26 million people on a small island and they are short on space so they were prepared and perhaps have a vaccine. They have had very few cases. The USA was not prepared at all. We have to bring our medical manufacturing home no matter what so that our supply chain is not half a world away in the hands of people notorious for low standards of hygiene and quality. And yes, we do need to get this economy back to work. Almost all of the deaths are the elderly so let's just quarantine them.

    A 30 year old teacher/baseball coach from NJ just died this week from C Virus. His wife indicated he was feverish that evening with bed sweating and hard breathing. She went into see him at 6AM and he was dead. Supposedly he was healthy before contracting the virus.

    I'm really surprised this ship is being so underused. Something's not right.

    I believe this is a true crisis, but I also know the devil inciting hysteria. The truth is somewhere in the middle, it's just a matter of where.

    It is not a waste for one simple reason. They are not there to function as a regular hospital but to function for overflow of non-COVID-19 patients.

    It is a catch 22. Don't have an alternative in place and need it? You are negligent. Put it in place and do not fully use it? You are squandering money and resources.

    Plus it makes for train targets should the need arise.

    Just seems to be pounding a nail with a jackhammer. I have a feeling Cuomo is overstating just about everything.

    He is in league with his CNN brother. Posturing, lying, deceiving—all normal course for them both. If you want the truth, you will need to turn elsewhere.

    It is a difficult situation.

    We have lots of evidence that the confined space of a boat is a catalyst for Covid19 spread with all the cruise cases.

    But hospitals are another place where we know it spreads easily. Implementing good guidelines to keep from contaminating the ship will result it backlogs.

    There is no easily solution to this.

    LATEST NUMBERS: Govt. Models Overestimated Hospitalizations by 8 Times; ICU Beds by 6.4 Times; Ventilators Needed by 40.5 Times

    I suppose though, we can give the Trump admin. some credit for this. This is one energetic busy president, and it just may be he's affecting these numbers directly. I'm convinced we're only going to need a fraction of the ventilators we're making.

    And another amazingly encouraging press conference, much to the chagrin of the gotcha media.

    not all states report data on hospitalizations, Icu and ventilator use. The covid project only calculates those states that do. It is hard to get complete data in the middle of a pandemic. If you look on their site, there are a lot of N/A in the fields for each state.
