"Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, warned Sunday that the novel coronavirus outbreak could become "seasonal."

Fauci said that the difficulty in containing the outbreak globally meant there could be a resurgence in the outbreak by next season. Officials should prepare for a second rise of the virus by pushing for increased resources, including a vaccine, Fauci said.

Fauci said on CBS's "Face The Nation" that even if the global number of cases shrinks to a significantly low number, the difficulty in containing the outbreak means it is "unlikely to be completely eradicated from the planet," and the next season could see a second rise of the outbreak."...Fauci warned that coronavirus could likely become seasonal

Yeah. Flu and colds rise every winter. No reason to think this won’t do so, as well. We’ll just have to build it in to all the other risks we all accept to have modern civilization.

Could be true, but there will be more knowledge of how to treat and perhaps an antibody vaccine by this September. And since it will no longer be 'novel' , a herd immunity.

It would be nice if My Pillow guy could just get us all a bunch of N95 or some other letter 95 face masks to wear like they do in Taiwan so that we can keep everything open as they did in Taiwan and suffer only one in a million dying as they had. Yeah, that would be nice. We wouldn't have to call the company nurse whenever somebody coughed. Take your temperature--you can't even buy a thermometer they tell me. I have had a new one for ten years and never used it but my folks always had one over fifty years ago. What is wrong with people? I guess I lived through the blizzard of 1978 so I always keep things around, especially in the winter. I guess that it's hard to die when you are rich because you don't want to leave all those mansions and private jets and glittering parties behind. You only get three score ten on average. I'm on borrowed time. Borrowed from people who didn't make it to three score ten. Only the good die young--I figure that I will make it over 100.

Reminds me of a funny story. Back in the 80s there was a country song called "Till I'm Too Old to Die Young". Around the same time there was a country song called "Never Too Old for Young Love". I was listening to the radio and one of those two songs was played and after it was over the DJ said, "That was 'Never Too Old to Die Young'." Took me a couple of seconds to realize what he had said. :D

Went looking for masks, could find none in stores or online. Then I looked in my car, and found a big box of N95 masks wife had bought when cleaning her deceased father house... those things are thick, they seem to restrict my breathing, so dont like them much. Wonder if a mask could cause an older weak person to pass out by tiring them.

She got them as the dust was irritating her throat, but they caused her glasses to steam up. So she used something else and we have them now. At least I can put one on if needed not to cause offense to someone weak in faith, (like eating foods they dont approve of), if the gov't demand we wear masks. In our area most dont wear a mask yet. Could be she did not adjust them properly, they are 3M brand.

Well, no one will say it, but those in assisted living/nursing home, over 65, or compromised by disease or debilitating drugs wont be alive by the time they perfect a vaccine. Only the young, and healthy and those with the moneys to keep themselves protected will be able to go back to work and survive the next wave that comes. Most of us dont fall in that category....

Huh? That sounds like an extreme statement unless you don't think a vaccine will be found for the next 25 years.

I don't see how you can be that negative though. I will admit modern medicine is 'artificially' extending our lifespans beyond what is natural. Sometimes that is good, sometimes that is bad. Other societies have a more practical view on dying. It seems that was exposed in Spain's homes for the old recently, how differently they handle those at the end of life. There were no machines keeping anyone from passing.

That's incredible, we found some in our supplies we had for painting the house, which now we have plenty of time for.

Ask the doctors and the experts in the medical fields, and they will say it straight up. When I said 'most', I was thinking along the lines of the older conservative church going demographics which I assumed many would fall into here. But maybe I assumed to much...

How many of those in assisted living and retirement centers do you see being around after a couple of waves of this flu.

They are now locked down. I would hope going forward they will be locked down sooner than this time when there are any major outbreaks around them. Humans are flawed and corrupt but we are capable of learning and adjusting.

Like I said, we humans learn and adjust. So much of the reaction to what is happening with this virus reminds me of how lots of sports fans write on social media. If their football team wins a game, well, they say their team is great and may be unstoppable. Their team loses the next week and they say their team is trash and won’t win another game. Humans learn and adjust. Just because something happens at point A does not mean that there will be the same action/reaction at point B, point C, etc., and on down the line.

My advice: Always discount whatever you hear from the “Doom and Gloomers” as well as the “Pollyannas”.

Thing is, most of them are doctors or in the medical field..not really encouraging to say the least.
