Joining a Wagon Train

In a school book, perhaps during middle school, the unvarnished history (dates and places) was spiced up with assorted enrichment pages. I remember one called Pioneer Woman. (My recollection is undoubtedly flawed.) It simply provided a page from her diary. In the morning she dressed the children and they then went out looking for "cow pies" which provided the "fuel" used to cook breakfast. She built a fire and cooked (I do not recall what) and then cleared up the mess and put away for stuff into the wagon for next time. She milked the cow, and walked along side the wagon. At lunch she did pretty much the same, never stopping, but doing her "job." The afternoon was pretty much the same too, just more work to help the family as it traveled west. The diary ran about three quarters of a page, and then closed with the final line - gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, who was hungry from his first hour.

What an honor to have had Pioneer family members not 3 generations back!!!
