“As protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd continued through the week, CNN hit a major ratings milestone: On Wednesday, the network notched its sixth day in a row in the top spot among the cable news channels for total day and primetime viewers in the advertiser-coveted age demographic of 25 to 54.

This is the first time CNN has topped those viewership groups in 19 years. ...

The last time this happened for CNN was October 2001, during the post-9/11 news cycle.

What is the reason for their new popularity? I never watch them although they are played at work along with corporation bulletins but the transmission is so poor in the outlying warehouse where I work that the screen and sound freeze all the time. I did think that it was wrong of the rioters and mob to attack CNN Headquarters in Atlanta. The curious thing is that CNN would have been on the side of the rioters.

Personally, when I watch the news channels I flip around between CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC, depending on what they are discussing. Also watch some CNBC when I want financial news and a little Fox Business News.

CNN is very pro-BLM. I get The sense it is the cable news of the young and minorities because of this.

CNN has had the lowest ratings in the cable news comparisons. It is too bad because in the old days they stuck to the news and they were good. The joke is that CNN only plays in airport waiting areas. I don't know what their demographics are although I thought that they attracted older white Democrats mostly. They are stodgy if you try to watch them.

All the advertisers care about on any TV channel or show is the 25-54 demographic. They couldn’t care less if college students or old folks are watching. They want the folks who will be spending money.

Do Libertarians watch CNN? I haven't watch them since the airplane disappeared in the ocean years ago when I watched them during my lunch break at work. I follow OAN now as well as Newsmax and then Lou Dobbs and some Fox.

I do know FOX News has a variety of Libertarian anchors from Tucker Carlson to Greg Gutfield. CNBC probably attracts libertarians too. MSNBC and CNN are fairly hostile or indifferent to libertarians except for S.E. Cupp's show on CNN.

Beats me. I’m pretty much disgusted with politics. I think I’m just going to pet my dogs and learn to play acoustic guitar.

When the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster happened in 2003, I flipped around between the three news channels for updates and found that CNN did the best job covering it. Since then if there is a major disaster I go to CNN for coverage. I think Fox News and MSNBC are better for political news on the right and left.

Well, as you pointed out, a CNN building was supposedly attacked by rioters, so that garnered attention.

Didn't they also pull a stunt with Cuomo having COVID-19? Anything for ratings. And sometimes it works.

The CNN building in Atlanta was attacked live on air. Two police were injured forcing the rioters out since they threw flash bang grenades into the midst of the police.

While I don't like his views, Cuomo was sick with a very high fever. He still did his show while sick, that got protest from other CNN people since he should relax.

This may have more to do with the decline of Fox. Some of their midday shows are indistinguishable from CNN.

Proves nothing of course. But we're all free to believe what we want. Ratings reign.

I could give them the benefit of the doubt who was behind all of that rioters in the building business, but injuring police means little to these progressive leftists.

As for Cuomo and his display, he was outed by a cyclist who happened upon him and his family out and about without even taking precautions from spreading the virus.

I think people are getting tired of all the "talking heads" on MSNBC and Fox News.

CNN has fewer "talking heads," and more news reporting.
