Reports have surfaced that the NFL will be playing the so called black national anthem "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" before all season opening games this year. Gee, I thought we had only one song as our national anthem that is to be played before sporting events? I wonder how long it will be before the NFL will be called the BNFL (Black National Football League) or the NBFL (National Black Football League)? This is doing nothing but continuing to tear the nation apart by pitting blacks against whites. This is another sad chapter in the once great National Football League.

Yeah! While we"re at it, I say we get rid of that "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" song they sing DURING baseball games. The gall of having another song at a sporting event. It's just unheard of.

There is no such thing as a black national anthem.

If they want a song, I prefer Swing Low Sweet Chariot..

The NFL is in the catbird seat because the stadiums have public financing and the public is stuck with astronomical debts from these sports palaces.

The only way out is to impose a tax surcharge on alcoholic beverages....

It's in the hymn book. The one before the current one.

I've played it about a dozen times during the offering time at church over the past decades.

Funny - I don't think the NFL knows what the song is about. It's about a joyous celebration and worship of God for his taking the Hebrew children from the wilderness to the Promised Land.

I'm sure as soon as they know it's about lifting up God - they won't play it.

I know you are trying to be a smarty pants, but the difference is the song "Take me out to the Ballgame" is done during the late game stretch, not as an addition the the National Anthem which is traditionally played at the beginning of the game as they are now doing in trying to equate the supposed black national anthem to the real one.

OK, let's get rid of all anthems and song playing before the start of the games. No national anthem, no "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing". Would get rid of taking a knee protests and speed up the games.

That's not a bad idea in order to salvage the league. The sad part of all of this however is the NFL could have nipped this in the bud by not allowing political protest into the game. They could have said to the players that they protest on their own time and that would have been it. They have lost customers (money) because of all this stuff and I hope that they lose many more and lots of money before they come to their senses and end such nonsense.

Burn down the NFL and form a new league without any wokeness, kneeling, protestations and racial Skræling .

    Just play the game.
Maybe if the ratings drop low enough, they will go out of business.

Wouldn't bother me in the least. Honestly, what our national anthem has to do with professional sporting events, I don't know.

If I understand correctly, the National Anthem began being played before baseball games during WW2 to show support for troops/country.

    peace to you

edit to acknowledge Salty beat me to it and it began during WW1, not WW2.

Actually, your question got me curious. As a Vet, I am proud to give the military hand salute during the National Anthem.
Also - at military movie theaters - the Anthem is played before all movies.

In 2009, a law was passed that provides for Vets to render the military hand salute!
From the Link: "The military salute is a unique gesture of respect that marks those who have served in our nation's armed forces," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "This provision allows the application of that honor in all events involving our nation's flag."

    Thank you Scarlett!
