Swine flu strain with human pandemic potential increasingly found in pigs in China

The G4 variant is especially concerning because its core is an avian influenza virus—to which humans have no immunity—with bits of mammalian strains mixed in. “From the data presented, it appears that this is a swine influenza virus that is poised to emerge in humans,” says Edward Holmes, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Sydney who studies pathogens. “Clearly this situation needs to be monitored very closely.”

If they really want a biowar, possibilities exist. Imagine pandemic on top of pandemic, positively sounds like end of days could occur. Certainly the end of some uncertain numbers of people.

And the bubonic plague is reported in Colorado.

    Interesting times we live in.

    And in China also.

Do you think that China will release another biological warfare disease soon?

At least we have a history with effective flu vaccines which are mostly successful in prevention and mitigation of effects.

By the way, I have never had the flu. Have any of y’all?

I do not think so. I've had colds, but if it was the flu it was a fairly mild case.

Get used to these stories about new diseases coming from China, - as long as the fear is out there they will make great click bait. Hopefully, all the false reports don't lead to a "boy that cried wolf" atmosphere should a real threat arise...

    Some interesting flu data.

‘ “In childhood and adolescence, [flu is] much more common, possibly because we mix more with other people," Riley said in a journal news release. For adults over 30, "the exact frequency of infection will vary depending on background levels of flu and vaccination," he added.

The study team analyzed blood samples from volunteers in southern China to assess their levels of antibodies against nine different flu strains that circulated there between 1968 and 2009.‘
