Sure, illness and crime happen to tourists worldwide but weird problems happen in Cuba when such events occur. Relatives and friends are not contacted. The police do not investigate or do not release their findings. Loved ones cannot see their dying relatives because they cannot pay the hospital bill and so forth. Their are strange tropical diseases and very bad food and filthy hotel rooms galore in Cuba.

So in spite of all the horror stories a 52-year-old Montreal woman who worked in maintenance in a Montreal hospital went to Cuba. The second day there she was murdered and buried on a beach. The police did not answer the phone. They did not release the cause of death or any other details. The poor lady’s name was Antoinette Traboulsi and she had four children. She thought she was going on a safe cheap vacation. However, Cuba is racist and is a pit even in the better areas. It is like going to North Korea.

That is tragic and very sad. :( I would NEVER visit Cuba. It sounds like a nightmare to me!

There are many parts of the US that are dangerously bad places to go too.

US becoming a nation of tribes not cooperating well together. Tribalism is a thing here now.

I have no plans to visit Cuba. We have too many Commies here. Sure don't want to go to a Communist nation. Maybe send our Communists there and we all be happy.

Maybe she thought it was a cheap vacation, but you know what, very few places are worth going to as a cheap getaway. And the grass ain't greener in Atlanta, etc...
All those places you think might be great, maybe not so great.

Who knows what she did to endanger herself, but she may have exposed herself as a target, crime of opportunity to the lowlife criminals, who are everywhere.

My personal opinion is that she was a black woman alone who liked Cuba but did not realize the racial hatred that the Castros have. Fidel and Raul’s father fought for Spain against Cuban independence and was of the largest and richest plantation owners in Cuba. Che and the Castros were always racists and few Afro-Cubans have any role in the Castro government except in the police or military in the rank and file.

She could have been murdered for her meager cash by thieves or by the police themselves. Cuba is no man’s land.

Me, too. I logged a lot of miles in Mexico years ago and saw a lot of squalor but Cuba is now the second poorest nation in the world and some say that Afro-Cubans had more to eat more than a century ago under slavery than they do now under repressive communism.
