We (SC) are lifting restrictions (they were never that bad anyway).

My wife works in the schools and think they may have to close. The entire Special Ed staff is out (either in the hospital, sick at home, or quarantined for COVID). Add to that other teachers (one just died from COVID and several are hospitalized) who are out. The issue is we can't get substitutes.

The weird thing is SC is not any worse than other areas that have locked down.

One thing that has become apparent is that masks work. I do not know if it is the masks themselves or that people who are wearing them are more responsible (social distancing, not licking doorknobs, ect.) or more aware due to the masks.

But most of the cases (and deaths) that I know of are related to pretending COVID is just a flu.

Agreed ... and because of my wife’s cancer, I’ve learned to take extreme cautions like wearing masks, washing etc. a flu could kill her, so COVID is taken very seriously.

Up here Dicator (aka Gov) Cuomo has made it very hard on small business. Basically, the State Legisulator, last Spring gave him virtually unlimited power.

The problem, IMHO, is that the pandemic has become politics. So often we do not realize that COVID-19 is worldwide.

From a medical standpoint I understand that COVID would spread less if we never encountered another person. But by that same reasoning automobile deaths could be prevented by making automobiles illegal.

From a standpoint of personal liberty I understand that people do not like being told what to do. By that standard heroin would be legal and I would not have to "click it or ticket".

One extreme is to shut everything down. The other extreme is to pretend that COVID-19 is not only a flu but just another flu. The solution is in the middle. Do not live in fear, life goes on but at the same time observe reasonable cautions to protect yourself and one another.

That does not cut it. We can go back and forward with "experts" that say masks work to others who say masks don't work. In the end people will follow whoever "tickles their ears".

For example, the CDC now says that masks do work. They say that homemade masks work, but not very well (they provide protection, but not a lot) while "approved" masks are over 80% effective at stopping the spread of COVID (note..."stopping the spread" does not necessarily mean protecting the wearer of the mask).

Personally, I think it is very foolish to think that masks do not help at all (because we all know they do....even people who will not admit it are not so foolish as to think that they offer absolutely no protection). Common sense tells you that it is better to cover your mouth when you sneeze.

More than that, though, think of all the idiots that think that COVID-19 is just another flu when it is not even a related virus. Both sides sell and feed on ignorance. But for the most part I suspect people are willfully ignorant simply to support whatever side they want to believe.

The article in post 7 says that the main problem is face-to-face - within 2 meters - for at least 10 - 30 minutes. So waiting in line for a moment or two -at the drug store is not a problem. Eating at a restaurant for an hour with others at your table, can be a problem.

It like the NY law on talking on the phone while your are driving. A short conversation, is not a problem, but is illegal. Now, if you call 9-1-1 while driving - that is legal - though one of the most dangerous things you can be doing!
