At what point?

Pastoral counseling should never be “heeded” merely because it is “from the pastor.”

As with any decision in which a life change is being made, the Scripturally sound principle is “in the multitude of counselors”.

“Trust in the Lord… acknowledge Him”. That is the single condition for “He will direct …”

Not “human understanding.”

 

John 10:4
[4]And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

 

Big problem. Most either cannot or will not. I want to believe the truth of scriptures. And to the best of my ability I think I do so. We have the common ground of the written word of God and His Spirit by which we cannot deny Him. Yet on many "secondary" issues we cannot agree. 1 Corinthians 1:10 and 1 John 2:27.

 

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14 (KJV 1900)

God works in us to will and to do of His good pleasure Philippians 2:13. So I know if my heart is right, God will provide direction. This is where the "Comforter" comes in. He gives me peace of mind in even the most difficult decisions. And I always know He directed my steps for the better having that witness.

 

You would need to be very clear that your Pastor's advice was somehow unbiblical.
You would also need to be quite sure that the 'unction of the Holy Spirit' did not coincide with your own unbiblical desire.
Kudos to those who mentioned Proverbs 11:14. Get some other understandings from godly people before you follow your own desires. "It feels so right!" is not a good reason for going against your Pastor.

 

I find God confirms. In scripture with His message as well as directly speaking to my spirit. The former is available all the time, the latter, only when I have surrendered my will to His; prayed in faith, and abide in His Word.

Almost 4 years ago, I approached the auto restoration shop referenced in the "Passion Polly" video in my sig. The quote to restore Polly absolutely crushed me. Could we afford it? yes, but that would be an enormous commitment of resources to simply "fix" a car. Me and she prayed apart ... together ... apart. Seeking. A couple months later we attended our first big car show in Ft. Worth; Good Guys. Found a 55 Belair 2 door post like Dad had when he was a teenager. I talked with the owner, reaching way back for all the knowledge I recalled when Dad talked about his 55.

Before our engagement was complete, I was telling him about Dad ... WHO he was ... and then about the man, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. I could see the conviction in the old boy's eyes. He didn't respond to accept that day, but as my wife and I left, I got weak kneed. This is Polly's purpose. I am to work hard to get her ready so her message can be carried ... her message which brings with her The Gospel of Jesus Christ. So ... I returned to the resto shop owner and inked it.
