LOL. Overpaid? Not his number. Not his name. Not his payments. Not his.

As part of his guilty plea, Guth admitted that from November 2016 until July 2018, he erroneously received a total of $33,812.00 in Social Security retirement benefits issued under the social security number and name of another person, and that he spent the benefits despite knowing that the benefits were not his and that he was not entitled to them.

Speaking morally & ethically, I say no; but "legally" I would say yes!
This does, however, remind me of a joke from years back.

An elderly couple who were childhood sweethearts had married and settled down in their old neighborhood. To celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary they walk down the street to their old school.

There, they hold hands as they find the old desk they'd shared and where he had carved "I love you, Sally."

On their way back home, a bag of money falls out of an armored car practically at their feet. She quickly picks it up, but they don't know what to do with it so they take it home. There, she counts the money, and it's fifty-thousand dollars.

The husband says, "We've got to give it back."

She says, "Finders keepers" and she puts the money back in the bag and hides it up in their attic.

The next day, two FBI men are going door-to-door in the neighborhood looking for the money and show up at their home. They knock on the door and say "Pardon me, but did either of you find any money that fell out of an armored car yesterday?"

    She says, "No."

The husband says, "She's lying. She hid it up in the attic."

She says, "Don't believe him, he's getting senile."

But the agents sit the man down and begin to question him. One says, "Tell us the story from the beginning."

The old man says, "Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday..."

The FBI guy looks at his partner and says, "We're outta here..."

I remember back in the 70s when the VA continued to send me monthly checks when I was no longer enrolled in college. I knew it wasn't mine and wrote them a letter. The checks kept coming.

Nearly a year later, I received this really nice letter explaining why I owed them several thousand dollars.

So I took the money out of the savings account where I had stashed every last penny and paid them back.

He knew. He owes the money.

Had a friend at university, whose father and mother were elderly and on SS. SS made special payments to the family and she got the money to spend at school on whatever she wanted, she had no need for the money. Nice for her to have a significant amount of money she did not need. I think when she graduated, that money was cut off. This was back in the late 70's to early 80's and it was several hundred a month she received. I can recall thinking at the time, it was so unfair, I had to take out a student loan from the government and she got free money from the government.

Gotta confess, the double posting was a senior goof! I was proof reading the post when, for some reason I did not see the part double posted, so I just added that part.
Now whether the goof was "age" related or computer related, I do not know, but I do have my suspicions!!
Still 'preciate the compliment, even tho undeserved!:Roflmao:Thumbsup:D

For heavens sake!! The rest of us have to pay back any over-payment that SS mistakenly makes to us. I was over-payed what added up to several thousand dollars over a length of time. I have to make monthly 'deductions' from my present SS check to pay this money back. Why in the world would someone who fraudulently took money not have to make restitution? Why is this even a question!
