Who Really Benefitted from the Jan 6 Protests? One Reader Shares Their Observations

A reader provides some observations on the real beneficiaries of the Jan 6 Capitol protests.
I’ve been looking at a CSpan video (“Joint Session of Congress for Counting of Electoral College Ballots”) from Jan 6 of what was actually going on in Congress when the incursion took place. This 11 hour and 55-minute video is history. It agrees with my memory of what was happening at the time: that the Trump supporters in Congress had fulfilled a requirement that at least one congressman and one senator be willing to debate the validity of the election results in the six states in contention. And this is what they started doing that morning, the first day of the new session of Congress.

The repubs never had the votes. Once the states certified and sent electors, it was over.

No conspiracies to stop something that was never going to happen.

It was never just about whether they "had the votes," which in any case could only have been known for certain following the planned extensive debate and then investigation.

It certainly benefited anyone, whether Dem, Independent, or RINO, who didn't want the debates to take place, and none of those did. Those debates were important to place the matter on full record before the people.

Instead, the Capitol breaches, some of which amounted to escort, became the focus and the entire situation changed, virtually all blame of course aimed at Trump and his supporters in general, which was utter nonsense.

The FBI was well aware of some small plans to breach the Capitol. Pelosi chose not to call up any troops to manage the huge crowds. Even the Capitol Police were intentionally undermanned for the event. Thus there was too little in place to interfere with those breaching plans. However, the CP did have enough to provide escort service.

The constitution requires investigations at the state level prior to certification.

Although the Congress can challenge individual electors with one person in house and senate request it, there is still majority vote required. Repubs never had votes to stop the process for investigation.

I understand 2020 left a lot of bitter feelings, but it’s over. Time to focus on 2022.

It's not just about 2020, but also about what happened before, and even what happened after. Feeling otherwise is just head-in-the-sand naïvete. Being ready for 2022 is rather doubtful.

But it's what Trump may do that has the Dems & RINOs most worried and that probably has more to do with 2024.

Whether all of the election violations and underhanded maneuvers will be sufficiently addressed by then is still uncertain. Whether they even want to address them is even uncertain.

In any case, regardless of votes, avoiding getting this part on the record in full and before the people in that timely way was a major coup.

Jan 6 made evident that the Senior Senator from SC is a first rate scumball.

I’m not opposed to hashing it out. I’m just saying the only move forward is making sure election laws protect all legal votes being counted.

As I said before, even if people came forward and yelled from the rooftops “yes, we stole the election and here’s how we did it!” B:den is still pres and that won’t change with any investigation.

That's not true. The frauds must be brought to justice.

We need to change "Stop the Steal," to "Punish the Steal."

As Paul said, no can be justly laureled unless he runs lawfully.

However, we must be very careful how we speak of Biden and the 2020 election here. He is in power, and 'this is a Christian board' and we must be very careful to make the proper prostrations to those who rule us lest we offend the divine virtue. That would just be un-American, and will get us banned.
