    Hello there! Not wanting to be contentious but actually it's grace of God + faith of Jesus = my salvation. My faith may fail but His never will Be blessed!

    "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Hebrews 11:6

    I aim to please God by my personal faith in the name of Jesus (The Word of God...Rev 19:13). His name (The Word of God) represents the truth of God to me. Yes, of course Jesus believes the truth as well but what is important for our salvation is that we personally believe it too. For if we do not, only our condemnation remains...see John 3:18.)

    Be Blessed by the simplicity that is in Christ....2 Corinthians 11:3

    bbmember, like Peter, your aim to please Jesus will constantly fall short. God must gift you the faith that is pleasing to Him. You cannot manufacture your own faith.
    For the believer there is now therefore no condemnation. Romans 8

    MennoSota... if my faith in Jesus falls short, then I am not saved. It is "my" (personal) faith I'm talking about here, my "belief" in God's truth/Jesus Christ. As for God's gift of faith...when God gave his Word to mankind, he 'gifted' his faith (beliefs/truths) to ALL...but it is their responsibility, not God's, to either accept or reject that faith (truth). (See the choice in John 3:16-18)

    If one's personal faith (belief) was God's responsibility and not ours, then God would take the blame for our unbelief, not us. And as we know, He does not, as we carry our own burden/reward for belief (salvation) and unbelief (condemnation).

    I enjoyed this as a thread of grace hymns.

    As a debate thread...not so much.:(

    I agree. Another thread can be created to debate how faith comes about.
    rlvaughn, please feel free to share more songs that revel in the grace of God.

    Beneath the Cross of Jesus by Elizabeth Clephane
    1
    Beneath the cross of Jesus
    I fain would take my stand,
    The shadow of a mighty Rock
    Within a weary land;
    A home within the wilderness,
    A rest upon the way,
    From the burning of the noontide heat,
    And the burden of the day.
    2
    Oh, safe and happy shelter!
    Oh, refuge tried and sweet!
    Oh, trysting place where heaven’s love
    And heaven’s justice meet.
    As to the holy patriarch
    That wondrous dream was given,
    So is my Savior by the cross
    A ladder up to heaven.
    3
    There lies beneath its shadow,
    But on the farther side,
    The darkness of an awful grave
    That gapes both deep and wide;
    And there between us stands the cross,
    Two arms outstretched to save,
    Like a watchman set to guard the way
    From that eternal grave.
    4
    Upon that cross of Jesus
    Mine eye at times can see
    The very dying form of One,
    Who suffered there for me;
    And from my smitten heart, with tears,
    Two wonders I confess,
    The wonders of His glorious love,
    And my own worthlessness.
    5
    I take, O cross, thy shadow
    For my abiding place;
    I ask no other sunshine than
    The sunshine of His face;
    Content to let the world go by,
    To know no gain nor loss,
    My sinful self my only shame,
    My glory all the cross.

    Will do. I don't have another at the moment, but I have posted the score of Only Through Grace on my blog. I think a lot of folks might like this hymn (to sing) if they heard it. I created an electronic rendition of it as an MP3 file, but couldn't figure out how to post it.

    Old song but can still leave one in God's presence.

    On Eagle's Wings

    Psalm 91 Isaiah 40:31

    You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord
    Who abide in His shadow for life
    Say to the Lord
    "My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!"

    And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
    Bear you on the breath of dawn
    Make you to shine like the sun
    And hold you in the palm of His hand.

    The snare of the fowler will never capture you
    And famine will bring you no fear
    Under His wings your refuge
    His faithfulness your shield.

    And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
    Bear you on the breath of dawn
    Make you to shine like the sun
    And hold you in the palm of His hand.

    You need not fear the terror of the night
    Nor the arrow that flies by day
    Though thousands fall about you
    Near you it shall not come.

    And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
    Bear you on the breath of dawn
    Make you to shine like the sun
    And hold you in the palm of His hand.

    For to His angels He's given a command
    To guard you in all of your ways
    Upon their hands they will bear you up
    Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

    And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
    Bear you on the breath of dawn
    Make you to shine like the sun
    And hold you in the palm of His hand

    I Asked The Lord ~ John Newton

    I asked the Lord that I might grow
    In faith and love and every grace
    Might more of His salvation know
    And seek more earnestly His face

    2. Twas He who taught me thus to pray
    And He I trust has answered prayer
    But it has been in such a way
    As almost drove me to despair

    3. I hoped that in some favored hour
    At once He'd answer my request
    And by His love's constraining power
    Subdue my sins and give me rest

    4. Instead of this He made me feel
    The hidden evils of my heart
    And let the angry powers of Hell
    Assault my soul in every part

    5. Yea more with His own hand He seemed
    Intent to aggravate my woe
    Crossed all the fair designs I schemed,
    Cast out my feelings, laid me low

    6. Lord why is this, I trembling cried
    Wilt Thou pursue thy worm to death?
    "Tis in this way" The Lord replied
    "I answer prayer for grace and faith"

    7. "These inward trials I employ
    From self and pride to set thee free
    And break thy schemes of earthly joy
    That thou mayest seek thy all in me,
    That thou mayest seek thy all in me."

    O Love That Will Not Let Me Go ~ George Matheson
    O Love that will not let me go,
    I rest my weary soul in thee;
    I give thee back the life I owe,
    That in thine ocean depths its flow
    May richer, fuller be.
    O Light that foll’west all my way,
    I yield my flick’ring torch to thee;
    My heart restores its borrowed ray,
    That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
    May brighter, fairer be.
    O Joy that seekest me through pain,
    I cannot close my heart to thee;
    I trace the rainbow through the rain,
    And feel the promise is not vain,
    That morn shall tearless be.
    O Cross that liftest up my head,
    I dare not ask to fly from thee;
    I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
    And from the ground there blossoms red
    Life that shall endless be.

    1
    Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched,
    Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
    Jesus ready waits to save you,
    Full of pity, love and pow’r:
    He is able, He is able,
    He is willing, doubt no more.
    2
    Come, ye needy, come and welcome;
    God’s free bounty glorify;
    True belief and true repentance,
    Every grace that brings us nigh,
    Without money, without money,
    Come to Jesus Christ and buy.
    3
    Let not conscience make you linger,
    Nor of fitness fondly dream;
    All the fitness He requireth
    Is to feel your need of Him:
    This He gives you, this He gives you,
    ’Tis the Spirit’s rising beam.
    4
    Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
    Lost and ruined by the fall;
    If you tarry till you’re better,
    You will never come at all:
    Not the righteous, not the righteous,
    Sinners Jesus came to call.
    5
    Agonizing in the garden,
    Your Redeemer prostrate lies;
    On the bloody tree behold Him!
    Hear Him cry, before He dies,
    “It is finished!” “It is finished!”
    Sinner, will not this suffice?
    6
    Lo! th’ incarnate God, ascended,
    Pleads the merit of His blood;
    Venture on Him, venture wholly;
    Let no other trust intrude:
    None but Jesus, none but Jesus,
    Can do helpless sinners good. [Joseph Hart, 1712-1768]

    Encouraged by Dr. Bob posting one of his own hymns, here goes...

    The Mighty God, a Gracious King by R. L. Vaughn

    1, A mighty God His creatures formed
    And did whate’er He pleased.
    His voice divine dispels the storm;
    His hand heals the diseased.

    2. The demons flee at His command;
    The angels praise His worth.
    The dead are raised when He demands
    Their bodies to come forth.

    3. The sick, the blind, the dumb, the lame
    Are in His special care;
    If He but speaks their lowly name
    They to His feet repair.

    (1992; can be sung to any Common Meter tune)

    May Jesus Christ Be Praised

    When morning gilds the skies,
    My heart awaking cries:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Alike at work and prayer,
    To Jesus I repair;
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Does sadness fill my mind?
    A solace here I find,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Or fades my earthly bliss?
    My comfort still is this,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    When sleep her balm denies,
    My silent spirit sighs,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    When evil thoughts molest,
    With this I shield my breast:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The night becomes as day
    When from the heart we say:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    The pow’rs of darkness fear
    When this sweet chant they hear:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    In heav’n’s eternal bliss
    The loveliest strain is this,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Let earth, and sea, and sky
    From depth to height reply,
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Be this, while life is mine,
    My song of love divine:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!
    Sing this eternal song
    Through all the ages long:
    May Jesus Christ be praised!

    Great God Your Love Has Called Us Here
    1 Great God, your love has called us here, as we, by love, for love were made.
    Your living likeness still we bear,
    though marred, dishonored, disobeyed.
    We come, with all our heart and mind your call to hear, your love to find.
    2 We come with self-inflicted pains of broken trust and chosen wrong,half-free, half-bound by inner chains,by social forces swept along, by powers and systems close confined, yet seeking hope for humankind.
    3 Great God, in Christ you call our name and then receive us as your own, not through some merit, right, or claim, but by your gracious love alone.
    We strain to glimpse your mercy seat and find you kneeling at our feet.
    4 Then take the towel, and break the bread, and humble us, and call us friends.
    Suffer and serve till all are fed,
    and show how grandly love intends to work till all creation sings, to fill all worlds, to crown all things.
    5 Great God, in Christ you set us free your life to live, your joy to share.
    Give us your Spirit's liberty
    to turn from guilt and dull despair, and offer all that faith can do
    while love is making all things new.

    Beside the Gospel Pool

    Beside the Gospel pool
    Appointed for the poor;
    From year to year, my helpless soul
    Has waited for a cure.

    How often have I seen
    The healing waters move;
    And others, round me, stepping in
    Their efficacy prove.

    But my complaints remain,
    I feel the very same;
    As full of guilt, and fear, and pain.
    As when at first I came.

    O would the Lord appear
    My malady to heal;
    He knows how long I’ve languished here;
    And what distress I feel.

    How often have I thought
    Why should I longer lie?
    Surely the mercy I have sought
    Is not for such as I.

    But whither can I go?
    There is no other pool
    Where streams of sovereign virtue flow
    To make a sinner whole.

    Here then, from day to day,
    I’ll wait, and hope, and try;
    Can Jesus hear a sinner pray,
    Yet suffer him to die?

    No: He is full of grace;
    He never will permit
    A soul, that fain would see His face,
    To perish at His feet
    .

    Written by a Roman Catholic Calvinist!

    1 Crown him with many crowns,
    the Lamb upon his throne.
    Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
    all music but its own.
    Awake, my soul, and sing
    of him who died for thee
    ,
    and hail him as thy matchless king
    through all eternity.

    2 Crown him the Lord of life,
    who triumphed o'er the grave,
    and rose victorious in the strife
    for those he came to save
    ;
    his glories now we sing
    who died and rose on high,
    who died eternal life to bring,
    and lives that death may die.

    Matthew Bridges was born at Malden, Essex, on July 14, 1800. He began his literary career with the publication of a poem, "Jerusalem Regained," in 1825; followed by a book entitled The Roman Empire under Constantine the Great, in 1828, its purpose being to examine "the real origin of certain papal superstitions." As a result of the influence of John Henry Newman and the Oxford Movement, Bridges became a Roman Catholic in 1848, and spent the latter part of his life in Canada. He died in Quebec on October 6, 1894.

    Incidenally -
    We always wondered how Jesus (or anyone else) could be crowned with many crowns. The name of the tune "Diademata" explains all.

    Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder

    EXT:
    John Newton
    MUSIC:
    Laura Taylor
    1. Let us love and sing and wonder
    Let us praise the Savior’s name
    He has hushed the law’s loud thunder
    He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame
    He has washed us with His blood
    He has washed us with His blood
    He has washed us with His blood
    He has brought us nigh to God

    2. Let us love the Lord Who bought us
    Pitied us when enemies
    Called us by His grace and taught us
    Gave us ears and gave us eyes
    He has washed us with His blood
    He has washed us with His blood
    He has washed us with His blood
    He presents our souls to God

    3. Let us sing though fierce temptation
    Threatens hard to bear us down
    For the Lord, our strong salvation,
    Holds in view the conqu’ror’s crown
    He, Who washed us with His blood,
    He, Who washed us with His blood,
    He, Who washed us with His blood,
    Soon will bring us home to God

    4. Let us wonder grace and justice
    Join and point to mercy’s store
    When through grace in Christ our trust is
    Justice smiles and asks no more
    He Who washed us with His blood
    He Who washed us with His blood
    He Who washed us with His blood
    Has secured our way to God

    5. Let us praise and join the chorus
    Of the saints enthroned on high
    Here they trusted Him before us
    Now their praises fill the sky
    Thou hast washed us with Thy blood
    Thou hast washed us with Thy blood
    Thou hast washed us with Thy blood
    Thou art worthy Lamb of God

    6. Yes, we praise Thee, gracious Saviour
    Wonder, love, and bless Thy Name.
    Pardon, Lord our poor endeavor
    Pity for Thou knowest our frame
    Wash our souls and songs with blood
    Wash our souls and songs with blood
    Wash our souls and songs with blood
    For by Thee, we come to God

    Grace Alone

    [Verse 1]
    I was an orphan lost at the Fall
    Running away when I'd hear your call
    But Father, you worked your will

    I had no righteousness of my own
    I had no right to draw near your throne
    But Father, you loved me still

    [Chorus 1]
    And in love before you laid the world's foundation
    You predestined to adopt me as your own
    You have raised me so high up above my station
    I'm a child of God by grace and grace alone

    [Verse 2]
    You left your home to seek out the lost
    You knew the great and terrible cost
    But Jesus, your face was set

    I worked my fingers down to the bone
    Nothing I did could ever atone
    But Jesus, you paid my debt

    [Chorus 2]
    By your blood I have redemption and salvation
    Lord, you died that I might reap what you have sown
    And you rose that I might be a new creation
    I am born again by grace and grace alone
