    Luke 10

25And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”26And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?” 27And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” 28And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”

Jesus point to Him was that God required absolute moral perfection in order to merit salvation by good works, and the lawyer needed to be reminded that how God views keeping the law is way higher than how we view it!

Jesus told him "You have answered correctly".

29But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31“And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32“Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33“But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35“On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ 36“Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?37And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”

Is the Samaritan absolute moral perfection? He says follow the Samaritan's example.

I'm showing what scripture SAYS. I don't have to shove any of my teaching in it.

Proof: You were only forgiven of your past sins!
    Wrong:

Proof: We are also forgiven our present tense sins!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

if we confess : present tense. Plural :we (those to whom the epistle is addressed).

God has already fully forgiven all of our sins on the basis thta Jesus died for all of our sins in our place on the Cross, but we still to have that forgiveness extends towards us when we sin by confession!

If any person could get saved apart from what Jesus did on the Cross, God is a liar!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confession/acknowledgement of sins - It is maintenance of the fellowship spoken of in the preceding passages.

Calling Jesus a liar doesn't make what he said a lie.

You would be making God out a liar if you are claiming that any can be saved apart from the Cross of Christ!

So we have a Christian here, telling us that what Jesus said in this passage means a person can be saved by by obeying the law apart from having any faith in Jesus Christ. A "Christian" mind you. Does this represent the RCC opinion here on this board? Fellow Catholics, please confirm.....

IF any of us could be saved by our own efforts and works, then Jesus did noty have to die in our place on the Cross!

Not what I am saying. Misrepresentation.

We can start another "Damned Samaritan" thread if you want.

And no one does that (Romans 3:11; Romans 3;23).

    Read the whole passage.

Jesus literally gives the Good Samaritan as an example of doing it.

If it could not be done he would have said it. Jesus Christ is a PERFECT teacher. There is nothing cryptic or Gnostic about his answer.

Paul in Romans 3 is quoting THE OLD TESTAMENT psalms, he is not presenting a brand new teaching.

I could quote psalms to the other extreme that says everyone is behaving perfectly.

Romans 3 is about Jews who believed themselves superior to gentiles. And Paul quotes the times when Jews flopped and failed.

That does not change the teachings:
". . . There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. . . ." -- Romans 3:11.
". . . For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; . . ." -- Romans 3:23.
". . . I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. . . ." -- Galatians 2:21.

    Galatians 5

16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Whoa Paul, Loving God and Loving neighbor is the LAW isn't it?

"If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law."

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Paul gives clear WARNING to believers:

19Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The Law is. Look if you did any of those things, they would put you to death. You are not under that law. WORST you are now under the SPIRIT. The fruit of the SPIRIT OF GOD, The HOLY SPIRIT, is Love.

Doesn't say multiple fruitS. The fruit and core is "he fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control;"

    Faith is back there waving.

When asked what Must I do to be saved. Jesus could have said....."Nothing, smokem if you gottem and keep your fingers crossed."

I have a dilemma of trust in Jesus. My faith in Jesus is a big problem. See I heard him say what I need to do to be saved.

So I am totally blind to any other option, loophole and undermine anyone one else cares to present.

He said it, full stop I believe him.
