This passage follows the Hebrews 10:19-25 passage where we are to live according to our faith and faithfulness to the gospel in which we placed our trust and devotion. Then in our passage the alternate is presented, where people rejected or were not fully committed to the gospel are described.

Hebrews 10:26 NASB
For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

1) For if we go on sinning willfully - refers to those after hearing and understanding the gospel message did not accept or fully trust in the truth and promises presented.

2) There no longer remains a sacrifice for sins - refers to the fact that only by accepting the validity of the gospel, including Christ dying for our sins, there is no other means of reconciliation. John 14:6

Hebrews 10:27 NASB
But a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES.

1) Those that do not fully trust in the gospel face the terrifying expectation of judgement

2) And, referring to Isaiah 26:11, they should expect the fire reserved to the enemies of God.

Hebrews 10:28 NASB
Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

1) Here the author of Hebrews seems to be referring to apostasy, which under the Old Covenant was punishable by death if convicted from the testimony of multiple witnesses.

2) It appears Deuteronomy 17:2-6 presents the Old Covenant criteria.

Hebrews 10:29 NASB
How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

1) Rejection or failure to fully embrace the gospel will result in even a worse punishment than physical death.

2) By which he was sanctified -refers NOT to being set apart within Christ, but to being set apart from the Old Covenant and placed under the New Covenant. This statement is similar to being purchased by the Master even though heading for swift destruction, as found in 2 Peter 2:1.

3) Whenever the gospel is rejected or NOT fully embrace, that constitutes an insult our Triune God, whose grace is provided by the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 10:26 NASB
For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Audience relevance. These Hebrew Christians in chapter 10 had 'received the knowledge of the truth', were 'sanctified by the blood of the covenant', called 'His people'. It's not just 'any ol' sin' that's in view here, but a specific sin (returning to apostate Judaism) of which a specific people (professing Jewish Christians), of a specific time (the very generation that judged Christ to be worthy of death) were under pressure to do.

There was to be no repentance granted for those that fell away and returned back to that apostate system that killed Christ, because by returning they crucified the Son of God afresh and put him to an open shame (Heb 6:4-6), but there was only a certain fearful expectation of judgment which would devour the adversaries before that generation passed away (Heb 10:37), for those that had trodden under foot the Son of God and counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing and done despite unto the Spirit of grace (Heb 10:27-29) by falling away back to the apostate Judaism they been delivered from.

THAT is a very crucial message contained within the book of Hebrews.

1) Did anyone say they had not received "knowledge of the truth?" Nope so obfuscation

2) Did anyone say they had not be set apart (sanctified) under the New Covenant? Nope so obfuscation

3) Did anyone say they had committed "any old sin?" Nope so obfuscation

4) What was their sin? Rejection or failure to fully embrace the gospel message!

5) The claim God had not allowed them the opportunity to fully embrace the gospel is false doctrine. read into the text my dark age fallacy.

6) Was Hebrews 10:37 addressed? Nope so obfuscation For example, Hebrews 10:37 is addressing the future blessing coming when Christ returns. But in Hebrews 10:38 we find the phrase "if he shrinks away" indicating the person was never saved, similar to John's statement they departed because they were never of us. See 1 John 2:19

obfuscation

Obfuscation:

"Evangelicals ignoring 'the wrath to come' upon that generation that murdered Christ. It's like a Grand Canyon sized chasm in your theology. You're not just missing a piece of the puzzle, you've tossed half of it out."

Accuracy, Van. Accuracy. Omission is corruption, too.

Once again those holding views from the dark ages offer mindless response to the evidence presented.

Post #5 - absurd claims without basis in reality
Post #6 - Copy and re-post devoid of response

Actual biblical response:

1) Did anyone say they had not received "knowledge of the truth?" Nope so obfuscation

2) Did anyone say they had not be set apart (sanctified) under the New Covenant? Nope so obfuscation

Yet another off topic response, a deflection, a change of subject, and so forth. This is all they have, mindless twaddle rather than their studied response from scripture.

The OP presents an understanding of Hebrews 10:26-29. Loss of salvation is NOT taught! Failure to fully embrace the gospel is taught, with a consequence worse than physical death.

Why would they deny the very essence of the passage? Because they falsely claim all the lost cannot even understand the gospel. Never mind Matthew 13 which teaches 3 out of four kinds of people are able to understand and accept to varying degrees the gospel of Christ.
