4 Seasons in California

John Steinbeck's book, East of Eden begins with a description of California's weather, long before today's weather pundits began making their long-range forecasts.

Steinbeck described their two seasons, each about a generation or two apart.

One season of plenty where every seed you plant grows and the sun shines warm,
This season draws the people in.

And the other, one of drought, one of despair, one of death, where nothing grows, the suns withers and burns the crops, fires erupt and all hope is lost.
