Have you seen Detroit's Jobless Rate? I think they need to get their heads out of their you know whats, build an affordable small car that most folks can afford & will support and get people back to work. This isn't new technology....its been around for decades but Bush had them all seized & crushed. What your paying for is the perception of a new & efficient technology, the Unions & the arrogance of the government to think people are that dumb.

My commuter car is a '92 Subaru that I paid $800 for 5 years ago. It costs me about $500 a year on average to maintain it, so I've spent, on avegage, $660 a year for the car. I can buy a Volt now and it will pay for itself in 62 years! Odds are better that I'll live that long than that the Volt would last that long.

I drive a 91 Honda Accord with over 240,000 miles on it. It starts up on the coldest days, runs like a charm, everything works.

I've had to pay for repairs now and then. Most of the time those repairs cost much less than a single monthly car payment. I only carry liability insurance as the car's Blue Book value isn't much, so I save on insurance.

If I'm still alive 20 years from now I'll buy one of these modern electric cars and drive it till it quits.

Here's a telling quote:

Of all the findings in Deloitte's market research, the most poignant was its profile of electric car "non-adopters." They have average household incomes of $54,000, live in the suburbs and rural areas, and depend heavily on their cars. There are millions and millions of nonadopters all across America. They are the middle class.

This is going to be interesting for GM. I smell another bailout.

Possibly, but it's far more likely that consumers that don't buy a car like the VOLT wil be fined or taxed to force compliance. Remember Obamacare.

Will we soon be saying, "How do you like your Volt that Lord Protector Obama has built for us at Government Owned Motors, Comrade?"
